Fret crowning.

Are there tools or techniques I can use to do a better job?

I've been using this three-sided file from 'zon, trying to only work the sides, but I have some really low frets that I didn't get very round, and they buzz a little.

I'd rather not pay $110 for a Z-file from stewmac.

(My vision is bad and getting worse; patience is bad but getting better.)

@eyesquash I use Crimson Guitars fret file and it works really well. They have a whole bunch of excellent videos on YouTube including fretwork. Worth checking out.

Right! It's been years since I watched them re-fret some rock star's SG.

I may be able to make one like theirs by rounding off the edges of one of the files I have.

@eyesquash theirs is triangular with one flat face and corner. They also do a flat file which you can level the frets with first, using a fret height measuring tool to find the high ones and the low ones. They're a cracking team there, lovely folk.
