@ricci in 2000, @czds and I had been hired to create a inter-organizational data warehouse and analytics system across 40 operating companies of a F100. As we were explaining the concept to the execs of one of those companies, the VP of marketing stopped us, and brought in one of her guys who had created a “Lake of Data” using MS Access on everyone’s desktop, scripted to sync the data every night. In 2006, we told this story to James Dixon of Pentaho. You may well be right.
