From 'I use Arch btw' to 'I use what works btw.' ๐Ÿคญ

@itsfoss Saddened by the impending addition of "AI" to Fedora though ๐Ÿ˜ข. Guess I'll be a tumbling tumbleweed going forward.
@Thorium @itsfoss oh no, what is it another "very smart" chatbot?
Looking ahead at 2025 and Fedora Workstation and jobs on offer!

So a we are a little bit into the new year I hope everybody had a great break and a good start of 2025. Personally I had a blast having gotten the kids an air hockey table as a Yuletide present :). Anyway, wanted to put this blog post together talking about what we are...

@Thorium @duckz @itsfoss Oh, what a shame. I guess you just can't trust any software that's made by a company these days.
@Thorium @itsfoss if you switch to opensuse I recommend looking at https://software.opensuse.org/
Might find some programs that have issues to run otherwise
personally, switched to Slowroll, because fedora had some issues with things I used. It works well and even has newer mesa than Fedora (which I like)
openSUSE Software

@Thorium It was bound to happen. All three major OS are controlled by corporations. Apple Microsoft and IBM/RedHat.

@Thorium @itsfoss May I suggest Manjaro for your consideration? Rolling release, easy to install and use, and is as complex as only you desire.

Oh, it's based on Arch, by the way

I wouldn't put high hopes on openSUSE regarding this. During the time I was still using it, I was subscribed to their feeds and there would frequently be posts about using oS for AI and monthly reports using awful AI-generated pictures as banners.
@itsfoss cachy on gaming, fedora on work laptop. Might switch my gaming one to fedora too
@itsfoss Still loving Ubuntu... ๐Ÿ˜‡
@itsfoss alot of engineering goes into farming, their main critique is that he isnt serving their nation
@itsfoss Oh look, here's Red Hat, back from the dead. Shoot her.
@StarkRG why so mean ๐Ÿ˜ข
@itsfoss Pains me to see Debian among the "easy" distros when literally Torvalds himself couldn't install it
That was a quarter of a century ago. Even a jurassic and sluggish distro such as Debian can get better over time.
@witix @itsfoss I use Debian and consider it easy... but with some technical nuances.

May switch to Mint somewhere in the future. But I got too used to KDE in the last years.
@witix @itsfoss but on the other hand, I'm the person who patched xorg to fix tearing so I'm also far from being the regular user (and I can't say that I won't need to apply the same patches for mint lol)
@itsfoss Until I finished high school, I decided to switch from Arch/CachyOS to Fedora. Because I didn't want to have to fiddle with my OS while studying.
@itsfoss exactly my approach ๐Ÿ’ช
@itsfoss Still on Debian. Was about to switch to Fedora, but I don't like their AI move. So I will stay with Debian and enjoy my freedom.
@itsfoss I never get tired of this meme template.
@itsfoss "i use what works btw" yea thats why im on alpine
@itsfoss me next stop
Alma Linux ๐Ÿ˜‚
@sandycorzeta nice, it is a good one
@itsfoss Long Live Enterprise (LTS) Release โ€‹โ€‹
@drbilip ๐Ÿ‘€
@miggi 'I use arch btw' and 'I use what works btw' is synonymously for me
@itsfoss I'm back with my first love, MX.
@carturo222 @itsfoss when we got my son a new computer I took his old laptop and initially installed MXLinux on it. Weird things happened. To be fair weird things happened with several distros I tired. Pretty sure the processor or GPU is the culprit. Though since Debian 13 came out (well in my case right now LMDE) everything has just been workingโ€ฆ so farโ€ฆ knock on wood and all that. At some point Iโ€™ll have to give MX another shot.
I use EndeavourOS btw and I love that it just works for me even though it's arch based
@itsfoss I use Alpine btw โ€‹โ€‹
@itsfoss arch is what is easy here as long as you use something like reborn os
Apt tends to be very picky on the repos you use
@itsfoss True.
Less hustle to troubleshoot but more focus to be productive.
@itsfoss people love dumping on arch as the "complicated non functional distro", but for me it:s been working fine for the last... 8 years?
