Why are there TV commercials? Are they legal here now? This is Aotearoa New Zealand, not some nondescript generic occidental nation.
I’d love to boycott those who chose to advertise tonight but one of them is Air New Zealand. But Harvey Norman—that’s an easy one since Gerry Harvey is a dick.
Two Degrees and Emirates as well.
Government allows advertising to be broadcast on Christmas, Sundays

It could generate a multimillion dollar annual boost for the industry.

@xurizaemon Thank you. They are weak as water. Of course Labour rolled over. The excuse about foreign platforms like YouTube is weak. Simply extend the law to cover online players. They are eroding our national character.

@jackyan I do wonder if this was one of the many things passed "under urgency"

@jackyan according to my sister this is the first year they're legal
@PetraOleum I wonder whose ghastly decision this was. Clearly they do not understand this country and our values. Which—call me a conspiracy theorist—means this move was authored abroad and our elected officials had no moral courage or loyalty to this realm to say no.

@jackyan @PetraOleum I don't care for ads - or very much for broadcast tv - but the only ad free days being Christian holidays did feel weird to me

I would care more for one day a week being ad free, but that's a hazy dream

@jackyan @PetraOleum a day of rest is a near universal good thing
@xurizaemon @PetraOleum Exactly this! Religion or not it’s nice to have a day without some of the terrible ads we have … Christmas Day was shattered by loud Harvey Norman commercials.
