Today I learned that a "cronut" is a cross between a croissant and a donut, and not a new Linux scheduling tool.
@neil get one, they are more delicious than a fad pastry item with a silly name has any right to be
@welshpixie @neil I can vouch for this. I don't like that I like them. But I do.
@micke @neil the ones from Lidl's bakery are particularly yummy
@neil 2026 prediction, a cron rewrite in Rust called cronut
@neil and “vanilla cronut” is actually a flavor of said dessert, not the plain, non-framework version of said scheduling tool.
@neil it's not too late to make it both.
@neil If it was a rewrite of cron in Rust, I would expect it to just be called cn.
@neil
yep, it's one of the few makey uppy names that match the new makey uppy confection they describe perfectly - delicious (unlike the overblown cruffin)
@magsamond @neil take that back! Cruffins are delicious!
@neil We this tool ASAP

@neil I didn't know these existed until I moved back to the states, they're pretty great.

For the NOVA peeps Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe has them on Saturdays

@neil @APBBlue careful, somehow systemd will manage to stick it in there
@neil My mind immediately went to some Chromebook related hack!

@neil How long before a dev picks up the challenge on that? 🤭

Segue: cronuts remind us of cromags from Sliders. (Yes: we're old enough to remember that very well... and still be irritated by how much it jumped the shark.)

@neil I tried a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruffin the other day.. amazing and a bit more sophisticated than the American cronut ;)

@neil That last part can be very quickly fixed 😅

@neil so it's not a Linux admin who schedules everything incessantly?
