This drives me crazy and it's still happening in iOS 26.2. How does the button register the click/tap and bounce around and whatnot while NOT triggering the button's action?! I have to move slightly closer to center to get it to actually work.

(edit: This sim instance is iOS 26.1 actually so maybe it's fixed in 26.2? I dunno but I sorta doubt it. Still gonna complain about it.)

@bigzaphod “Psych! No backsies.”

Yeah I’ve been enjoying that too.

@bigzaphod absolutely infuriating, they had this sorted in the HIG for iOS 3.0, for goodness' sake :(
@ticky @bigzaphod afaict they haven't given a shit about the HIG in over a decade. Which is also infuriating.
@bigzaphod FWIW, I have this happen with my own damn fingers on iOS 26.2 and my iPhone.
@bigzaphod This happens to me in the Messages app on the send up button
@bigzaphod I hate I’m saying this but I believe this is effectively intentional. Sidebars also respond to taps like this, with a bounce and glow, even if you’re nowhere near a button. You’re tapping on the Liquid Glass area, not the button, and there’s no way to see the boundary. That aspect of the problem isn’t entirely new, but now that the surrounding surface reacts to touches, it *feels* significantly worse.
@robotspacer @bigzaphod yes, it’s the same 'reason' that a disabled button still does the bouncy glass thing. One of their worse decisions IMO.
@bigzaphod this doesn't appear to happen on system nav bar buttons built with UIKit, in sim or on device. Is this a SwiftUI implementation detail?
@stroughtonsmith @bigzaphod it is, and it can be fixed by using `Label` instead of the image directly. super dumb.
@kylebshr @stroughtonsmith ah - thanks for that tip! At least I can fix it now. Soooooo dumb.
@kylebshr whoa! Thanks for the tip! @stroughtonsmith @bigzaphod
@bealex @kylebshr @stroughtonsmith @bigzaphod can someone please tell this to the person designing tab bars for Music.app? Or Home.app? Or any of the Apple apps?
@bigzaphod animation is on the big white circle, action's on the purple X :/
@bigzaphod oh no
They had a similar issue in the buttons on macOS notifications a couple years back where only the text box was the hit target for the button, not the button shape.
I do not understand how that happens. This is UI 101

@bigzaphod I hate these HUGE buttons and other UI elements in iOS 26.

Looks so childish like duplo Lego UI. 🤮

Wish we could get back to the elegance of iOS 18.

@bigzaphod Liquid Glass is crummy af. I’m deeply regretting thhis update.
@bigzaphod It feels disingenuous and superfluous and needlessly silly.
