I'm curious. If you are in the UK & also use #Bluesky have you or do you intend to complete the age assurance procedure? Comments appreciated.

@geomannie The UK Online Safety Act may be crap, but it is in force. What's mastodon.scot's defence going to be?

@taynappe Fair question. I doubt that mastodon.scot requires age verification as is moderated, it doesn't federate to the more objectionable servers & it's also not attractive to kids. It's a judgement call but I think it's safe from needing age verification.

@geomannie It's a fair call, but potentially expensive were things to go awry. I took the decision to shut down a small online forum because we didn't actively moderate it often enough.

@taynappe And that is a terrible shame. The online safety act is to paraphrase "crap" and it has lead to the loss of many small/niche online forums to the detriment of the online community.
