I will never understand the reasoning behind never tailoring your online experience to your own interests and just only letting algorithms do it for you.
Like, using the subscription tab on YouTube instead of the home page.
Or going through the settings of a new phone or account or medium and adjusting it to your liking instead of everything default.
Even if it doesn't stop breaches or security issues, it's better than nothing.

Even if you don't want to read a ToS or Privacy Policy, going through the settings of everything you sign up for, purchase, subscribe to, etc is a good thing.
If there is malicious intent somewhere, it can be mitigated at least by just taking the two minutes to change any settings.
I can't change what's already been breached a decade ago but at least telemetrics and nonsense aren't bogging down my internet experience.

Part of this comes from helping a younger coworker with something on their iPhone. Going through their security settings, I noticed that EVERYTHING was default and sending ad info, telemetrics, and a host of other data to Apple. Even with the settings available to not do that.
Even on Android, you can delete your "advertising id" and without using developer options.

Do people really not seek out alternatives to major tech company products?
Like just basic search of "Facebook alternatives" or maybe go through sites like @alternativeto and just look around?
I don't even consider myself terribly up-to-date anymore, I'm just tired of such boring tech that's just a front for selling ads.
Getting mad about enshittification but never seeking alternatives in earnest seems like madness to me.
