This year, as part of Google Summer of Code, one of the students improved #Python support by adding a feature that lets users easily switch between different virtual environments. Once this merge request is finalized, this will create a more unified and stable user experience in #LabPlot.

I covered how to disable Firefox’s new AI “features” in my previous post. While browsing my feeds, I came across a new AlternativeTo post on another enabled-by-default addition to Firefox titled Firefox tests privacy-focused direct results in the address bar with possible sponsorships. This new “feature” was already disabled in my config (thank you Arkenfox!), but AlternativeTo helpfully included a note about how to disable it for people with a more vanilla configuration:

Users can disable the feature in Firefox’s Search settings or by setting browser.urlbar.quicksuggest.online.enabled to “false” in about:config.

While AlternativeTo is mainly for software discovery, I must opine that their short news updates are good quality.

A pretty hard challenge on here seems to be, refraining from telling people about *alternatives* that aren't really *alternatives*.

If someone asks about a service they don't have to self-host, a self-hostable service is *not an alternative*.

If your *alternative* doesn't have at least 75% of the features that the other app has it's *not an alternative*.

Most people aren't actually searching for another puzzle they have to decrypt, they're searching for apps that do the same or similar things without destroying the world more or making some rich asshole eternally richer.
