Was forced to install the Miele app because it is the only way to tell the washing machine to clean itself. It asks you for permission to have third parties process and analyze your data no less than **8 times**. Ridiculous. I bet it will keep on asking until you give up. Also it is probably selling my data anyhow. Bah.
And yes, I personally know what to do to stop this. But it is not about me, it is about population level exploitation of data. Bah again.
Also this is some ESP8266 level performance! It's MAC address is registered to Miele, which is a nice touch.
@bert_hubert I don't buy any appliance that connects to the internet - no fridge, no coffee-machine, no washing machine .... There are no companies that can be trusted, certainly not US nor chinese ones, but European ones are only a little bit better and still bad. What happens when that company goes bust, your device doesn't work anymore ? really, this is not acceptable. Them getting your data, having possibility to remote brick your device etc is just not OK
@bonno @bert_hubert Weโ€™re talking about controlling some switches and some sensors. Thereโ€™s no reason this shit canโ€™t be an ESP32 with #ESPHome and your own user-controlled firmware.

I actually like the idea to get a notification in #HomeAssistant when the washing is done or some water problem happens. No need for a cloud or a corporation for that.
