I am knitting wool socks as a retirement gift for kids favourite teacher. Kid managed to find out that she likes blue and green.
I love knitting like this, alternating between two different patterned yarn. Here I have blue, gray and navy striped yarn and spot dyed novita yarn that makes wider stripes with blue, white and green.

The technique is an actual thing and called “rag-rug-sock” aka räsymattosukat.
I know that one knitter artist who uses two of those gorgeous gradient Noro-silk-wool yarns and knits few rows each and the end result is beautiful alternating stripes. This one does only one row each.

often the rugragsocks are made with two different prestriped yarns but i like to mix everything up. so sometimes i use single colour yarn as base and striped for variety. Heres one sock that’s rainbow striped yarn from Novita coupled with plain white. Makes nice fresh look. In the other one i used plain blue for heel, start and toes. Then mixed two prestriped yarns together.
I like to use just two yarns, less ends to weave in later (i hate that part). But using third accent yarns looks clean.
back to the original socks in this thread. heel is done so i can get bit better photo.
i think the reason why i knit like this is that my AuDHD ass doesn’t get bored. each row & the end result is unpredictable. i was not looking forward to these bc i thought it would look plain & boring! got that blue striped yarn from a lot i purchased. would not have bought it otherwise.

side note; i occasionally take custom orders for woolsocks. rules are strict but simple.
- tell me the measurements.
- your favourite colour/colours.
- color/colours you absolutely hate.
- i knit the socks based on this info, show them when they’re done on which point you pay and i send the socks to you.
right now i am not able to take orders, but it could possibly happen after new year if someone is interested. tho my yarn stash is narrower than usual atm, it can be a challenge.
