Wallaroo
Created an App Store event today for #WallarooApp winter wallpapers. They’re pretty neat and Apple says they help boost your app’s exposure on the store but I honestly have my doubts. Did one for Halloween too but I don’t think we saw downloads increase in October. 😓
If you can help spread the word or maybe leave Wallaroo a rating in the store, it’s very much appreciated. Thank you. 🖖

Created another in-app event for the Tapestry 1.8 release on the App Store. Kinda getting the hang of these now. Hopefully they help drive downloads but who knows. 🤷‍♂️

If you wanna help us out please consider leaving #TapestryApp a positive rating or review if you have a moment. Thanks once again. 🖖

@gedeonm Do you have positive experiences from those events?
@jeremys It’s really difficult to say if they make a difference or not. If they make it easier for Apple to Feature you then yeah I think they are worth it but so far this hasn’t been the case for us. There’s new analytics for in-app events though so I need to review the numbers and see for sure.
@gedeonm Ow, interesting. Those new analytics might entice me to check it out for my app and see what it gives.
@gedeonm I submitted one of those for my initial Tap Forms Pro release. They rejected it. No reason given. It was someone at Apple that even recommended I create one. Haven't bothered again.
@tapforms Wow that is terrible and it also makes no sense. Apple is really shooting themselves in the foot these days, I don’t get it. So sorry. 😓

@gedeonm in my experience they only help because it doubles your odds of Apple featuring you. If your event gets picked up and added to a list or something it helps. Otherwise it does almost nothing.

In App Store Connect you can find analytics for things like product page views and downloads from specific events.

@ryanpoolos Yep this seems about right. Why is that? Because the Apple editorial team doesn’t have to do anything, they don’t have to create the art themselves if you’ve already done it for them. Good tip about the stats. Will have to check those out. Thanks!
@gedeonm I think it’s just because of where events can potentially show. Apple can choose to promote the event on the Today and Apps Tabs but of course that is human currated and limited real estate. Otherwise it’s only shown your product page and search. So at best there it might close the deal but it’s not bringing in new people really.

@gedeonm Few things:

1) Had a hard time locating the app via Mastodon. Took digging in your post history to locate a link (yes, I know could’ve searched for it, most people won’t).

2) The icon doesn’t suggest it’s a wallpaper app. The wallaby is cute but not great for this purpose and most people aren’t going to understand why it’s a “Kangaroo.”

3) Love the App Store feature marketing design, however, once in the app Wallaroo doesn’t show the seasonal features up front. Had to dig for it.

@gedeonm @simonbs we’re also currently running a #Christmas Countdown event for @remainders with limited success.

We ran one for Valentine’s Day too awhile back and didn’t really see an uptick. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@ellenich @simonbs @remainders Yeah, I’m dubious to say the least but I’ll take any help we can get so… I’ll prob keep making them.

“When everybody’s super… no one will be.” 🫤

@gedeonm I wonder how many people look at the App Store just to see what’s new. When Schiller took over and revamped the store with feature stories and such (whenever that was? A decade ago?), it was really interesting for a while and I made a point of checking it out from time to time. It’s become much more bland since as the feature stories and such have disappeared in favour of scrolling grids of icons and such. Anyway, hope it’s successful for you!

@gedeonm Appreciate this post because I completely forgot this was a feature, and I created one for my own app after seeing this.

I'm not sure if I will get more downloads, but we'll see. Thank you!

@andy Oh most welcome! Fingers crossed that it helps. 🤞
@gedeonm That’s a big reason I use your app and not his…
