Hard to fathom just how bad Luxon's political management skills are. Here is his deputy publicly not ruling out repealing the Regulatory Standards Act after the next election. I mean, is he in charge of anything? Does Luxon not understand how weak it makes him look that he gave in to ACT, a party with only 8% of the vote, to have the Act in the first place, and now there are hints his party may vote to repeal it?

Nicola Willis suggests National may join other parties campaigning to repeal Regulatory Standards Act

The National deputy leader said her party may also campaign to get rid of the law.

@paulhellyer "Because it is in the coalition agreement" has carried more weight than any other moral, ethical, legal or judicial argument with these selfish sorted people. #WorstGovernmentEver
@dunedinmouse Agreed. You get the feeling that Luxon agreed to ACT's demands like this - and to a First Reading of the disastrous Treaty bill, without a moment's understanding of what the political impacts would be. He has found himself backed into a corner with the only 'out' being the plaintive plea, "Because it is in the coalition agreement", as you describe it. The irony being of course that he refuses to apply the same principle to Te Tiriti.

I’ve already had at least one wailing missive back from the Prime Minister crying, “but it’s in the coalition agreement”.

Didn’t get a reply to my message reminding Luxon that he himself negotiated it.
