Make no mistake though, this has nothing to do with foreign tourists, and everything to do with making sure every American is forced to ID themselves and “verify their citizenship” everywhere they go.

Charging non-citizens extra probably will not even break even with the additional cost of now having to validate a person’s citizenship, but that doesn’t matter when the goal is just mandatory IDs for everyone. It’s crazy how fast Americans have gone from largely being staunchly anti-ID just a decade ago, to now giving in to the government’s every whim.

@jonah happening everywhere at the same time. UK first – Australia doing it now with the Under 16’s social media. But they say Digital ID wont be mandatory. But when the choice is upload an ID to a third party vs just use SSO from a government ID provider – who wouldn’t?

@jonah yup, they want it to be the "new norm" to have to show papers everywhere you go. A dangerous direction that opens the door for all sorts of nefarious actors, and isn't very easy to reverse.
