Remember my switch problem? I managed to find a store with some options to try. The one I liked best were ROG Snow. So it seems I like linear switches.

But what would be the comparable Gateron switch? My online search came up empty. It seems switch comparisons aren’t that common?

Does anyone know anything about this?

#Keyboards #Gateron #ROG

OK they’re actually called NX Snow, so that might explain why I couldn’t get much results. I still need help though!

@bougiewonderland I’d love to try and help!! 🫶🏻 (puts on my custom mechanical keyboard nerd hat)

Looks like you prefer linear switches with a light actuation force?

For Gateron switches:
Gateron Smoothie
Gateron Oil Kings
Gateron Ink Black v2 (a bit heavier force)
(I’d start by researching those)

For Kailh switches:
Speed Silvers

Hope this helps :)

@britt It does! Thank you, you’re the best!

The sound-and-feel combination is what pleased me. The sound in particular had me going 🤤

I’m a heavy typer though so I need to be sure I don’t destroy my keyboard!

As far as linear switches go, the keyboard I’ll be getting (X-Bows Knight) only comes with either Gateron Red or Silent Red. I know I can change them after the fact, but I’d like to at least pick the one that would work best for me in the meantime. What’s your opinion?

@bougiewonderland just my opinion, but I think Gateron Reds are very industry standard linears. A measuring point for most other switches. If you want something sort of ‘neutral’ to work with, I’d say go with those.

The biggest different is sound, with the silent reds having a dampener. They may feel slightly ‘mushy’ but some folks prefer that over the sound of mechanical switches.

I am sure you’ll enjoy either! :)

@britt Okie then!

I admit I still find it hilarious that “silent” switches are nowhere near silent haha

@britt I emailed X-Bows (to ask if they could sell me a keyboard without switches whatsoever) and it turns out that even though it’s not among the listed selection, they totally can make my keyboard with Oil King switches instead!

So that’s what I did.

Merry Christmas to me!

@bougiewonderland perfect!!! I’m so happy it worked out! :)!
@britt I think that any companies willing to do things like that on the fly truly is worth its weight in gold. Adjustment period notwithstanding, I can’t wait to get my new keyboard!
