Here's a grim little tidbit. I was just talking to a friend of mine who still works at the newspaper where I used to work, and she told me that pedestrians get killed by cars so often these days that they don't cover them as news anymore unless the victim was well known or the driver was arrested.

@MLE_online

Something like 30% of ped fatalities is folks reading their prayer tablet or zoned out on earbuds.

I yell at them once in a while like a crazy old person when they mill around on a public roadway.

They are never grateful for some reason.

@n_dimension where do you live that people reading prayer tablets are milling about in roadways?
@MLE_online @n_dimension in an imaginary world where drivers are never responsible.
@geonz @n_dimension i think if we get past the rhetoric, most of us can agree that a lot of drivers drive dangerously and that a lot of pedestrians are distracted by their electronic devices, and that if both paid more attention to their surroundings and we made our infrastructure less overtly car oriented, a lot fewer people would die
@MLE_online @n_dimension it's the actually doing something about it that is hard wiht car culture so dominant. (Oh, and fossil fuels...)

@geonz @MLE_online

I like the Swedish model of road safety.

EVERY accident is the fault of the road and requires re-engineering of the roadway/signage/ingress/egress
