I remember before mobile games got enshittified

Yes, there was a brief, shining window when people actually paid for mobile games and got a game that wasn't ratfucked

@flargh
Also remember when the iOS App Store was new and I would actually spend time browsing and buying apps on a whim if they seemed interesting or useful.

Now I avoid it like the plague and only go there to download a specific app when needed, knowing that without a direct link, the mere act of finding an app by name will be a pain in the ass.

That's the future I dread for Apple Maps w/Ads®.

@flargh SUPER MONKEY BALL
@Eggfreckles I'm pretty sure the first year of the App Store helped a few developers I know buy cars, if not houses.
@flargh I still miss Flight Control
@Eggfreckles so do the passengers of the 9000 flights cancelled so far since last week, apparently
@flargh this never would have happened with continued 32-bit support in iOS.
@flargh i retired almost completely due to 2009-2010 app sales. Virtual cupcake decorating app FTW.
@Eggfreckles @flargh was,
seriously, sad when SMB wouldn’t play anymore. (Yes, my very first iPhone app download in 2008.)
@flargh Yeah, before Timmy Apple discovered being a combination ad agency and casino is better.

@flargh
I’ve noticed over time some iOS games I remembered fondly from earlier iPhones have not made it to subsequent iPhones I’ve owned. Not certain if it was my decision, or the developers and the App Store’s decision.

I wonder if they still exist like a needle in the haystack up in the Apo Store. I can’t recall their names even if I wanted to hunt for them.

@flargh Oh, how I miss Dropship back in the iOS early days. (And oh, how my thumbs have aged over 16 years...)

@blakespot @flargh Wow, the sound design on that game was *amazing*.

@octothorpe @flargh It was awesome in all ways. Ngmoco was a superb publisher. Enjoyed time in their offices in SF very much!

@flargh Damn that was like, 15 years ago.
@flargh Frenzic was way cool. Not sure why it can’t be available today. Seems to be a developer choice.
@Walt Frenzic: Overtime was available as an Apple Arcade exclusive from 21-24. Not sure how Apple's contracts roll for such things, but Iconfactory's web page for it still works.
