I want my own #email on my domain but don't want to hustle much. Although it'd much easier to selfhost email with #guix + dovecot I still kinda hesitate. What's the best "hackers" e-mail providers nowadays?
@shegeley I don’t know about “hackers” but I’m very happy with @fastmail myself, 5 years a customer.
@shegeley For self-hosting Dovecot?

I wish I had the courage to do it on Guix but I personally went to just hosting it in DockerMailServer on Podman running on Debian. Not sure about mail services, I looked at mailbox.org and it's probably what I would've picked if I didn't go with self hosting, but I can't comment on the experience as I haven't tried it myself.

@boo_ @shegeley My emails have been at mailbox.org since 2017 or so, and it has been a very smooth experience. No surprises. Reasonable pricing too. I can highly recommend!

With a custom domain, you need some configuration to make sure your emails are not marked as spam by the big tech email providers; mailbox.org has good documentation about it.

@shegeley not sure what you mean by "hackers" email, but I've been using Fastmail for a very long time and I am very happy with it.

I believe there is a way to get a referral link that might give you some sort of discount, I can look into that if you want to give it a try.

@shegeley self-host? Then @mwl has got you covered with his Run Your Own Mail Server book https://lwn.net/Articles/998153/

You can only pick one.

@shegeley I've been very happy with mailbox.org for decades.
@shegeley
Do you have any guide on the Guix way? Did a search some time ago but couldn't find much.
@shegeley
Ah I see. There's some additional hassle for setting up SMTP I'm just not ready for. Should be reproducible with Guix so I believe deep within the internet somebody should have that sorted already.
@shegeley imo https://migadu.com/ is the best option

@vavakado @shegeley
