@Rairii how would dingusppc compare to qemu-system-ppc at its current state?
@Rairii it would be super cool if this ended up allowing 7.6 to boot on other new world macs
@Rairii aha! I was poking at those ISOs and was musing that they might be able to work on the 1st gen iMac. Very cool.

@Rairii Interesting, I just tried it on my iMac G3 (Rev A) with the original CD-Rs. All three discs fail to boot, either by selecting it as a Startup CD, holding down C at startup, or via 'mac-boot' in Open Firmware. ๐Ÿค”

The iMac is running 8.6 from the hard drive, but I'm unsure if that would prevent it.

@mac84tv yeah, the original media won't work:
- 7.6 needs a tbxi for imac g3 to boot it (and under emulation the one from 8.1 imac works fine)
- 8.0's tbxi only supports hydra, so it errors on imac g3 because the interrupt controller is unsupported

@Rairii Interesting, Iโ€™ll try an installed folder on the iMac G3 and seeโ€ฆ now to find a spare IDE drive or adapter ๐Ÿ˜…

Anything else I should modify to give it the best shot?

FYI - When trying an installed folder on a beige G3 it tries to boot but errors out.

@mac84tv for me under emulation it just worked when putting the 8.1 tbxi in, remember to use hfs standard and not hfs+

@Rairii thank you! Sorry, Iโ€™m not familiar with the term โ€œtbxiโ€, is this a hidden file in the System Folder or a ROM file? I recognize it from Open Firmware tinkering ages ago but my brain is not making the connection.

I have my iMac G3 here so Iโ€™m curious to get the same results you have on real hardware ๐Ÿ‘ thanks!

@mac84tv the Mac OS ROM file in the system folder
@mac84tv btw someone tried it on real hardware and it worked (usb hid worked too)

@Rairii cool!

Hm, what version was your OS ROM and was it sourced from an iMac restore/install CD or from an installed 8.1 system folder on an iMac?

I tried both, ROMs were v1.1 and 1.6, and they just stopped at the โ€œstartup disk wonโ€™t workโ€ error. ๐Ÿค”

Iโ€™m probably missing something simple ๐Ÿ˜…

@Rairii oops, meant to attack this photo
@mac84tv it wont boot from an HFS Extended partition, you need to reformat as HFS Standard

@Rairii yes, the HD is formatted as Mac OS Standard / HFS. It has multiple partitions but they are all HFS, hm.

If I install OS 8.1 it boots fine, interesting.
