Gang of Four - Songs of the Free

Going with some deep cut Gang of Four. This is a favorite of my partner; a record from her teen years that she shared with her dad. Is there nostalgia for this era of GoF? This record seems so overshadowed by the first 2 records, and fans at the time were very critical of the more slick production. (I know because I was one.) But, damnit, it's a really good record in retrospect. Great lyrics, a cool fusion of post-punk and club music.

To be clear, her dad was in his 40s at the time. : )
@puffer 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@puffer Huh, I didn’t even know about this one. I love the first two, don’t much care for Hard, and haven’t really bothered with any later stuff.
@donutage give it shot. 3rd record. Bridges the Hard era and the early stuff. I like it very much now, not so much at the time.
@puffer I’ll keep an eye out!

@puffer So I was kind of illiterate in my youth, but I had this album since forever. Imagine my surprise 20 years later, when I read the sentence “We live as we dream, alone.” In Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. So random, but so cool.

I really loved the earnest socialist punk & new wave that was coming out of England in those days, like The Clash & The Jam. The music was great, but the words are still really powerful.

@Devils_Rancher They still resonate today those lyrics
@puffer +1 go4! love a man in a uniform.
