My company food allowance is £50 per day. Realised I can buy a couple of homeless people a sizeable meal whenever I travel and consume fewer calories at the same time. Makes me feel great and have had some great chats with real people. Do it if you can.
@fesshole
Thank you for this really useful life hack! I will tell as many friends as possible who have this opportunity.
@fesshole Top work! £50 a DAY is amazingly generous - does your work think you are a polar bear or perhaps an elephant?
@ephemeromorph @fesshole I guess management didn't like the optics of having a different limit for different employees
@fdr @ephemeromorph @fesshole when travelling for work and you don’t have a kitchen you’ll get to that £50 pretty quick for healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner plus drinks and tips.
@hbons @fdr @ephemeromorph @fesshole Yup, this. Hotel w/o kitchen, or spending most day on-site you have neither time to for groceries nor for cooking. But if you can and thus can spend money better... that's a great opportunity!
@hbons True as that may be, you still only get 5 for mid-day and 20 for evening (with an expectation you get breakfast included with your room) if you work in the NHS, a council, most charities. This means packing bits from home and/or being left out of pocket most of the time
@TheDonsieLass sigh... NHS workers deserve more in every aspect.

@ephemeromorph @fesshole might not have different per diem rates for different areas. That £50 might not really go that far in 'business suitable' restaurants in London.

Or in the US when a McDonald's combo can run you upwards of $15 in the city.

@fesshole

That's awesome. I'm continually astonished by how the other class lives. Fifty pounds would be my food budget for a week+.

@Uair @fesshole idk about other class, my bet is this is a working class person who lucked into a job with good benefits
No rich person would come to this conclusion lol
@fesshole yay so glad you've been able to do that!
