Tahoe’s Terrible Icons

MacOS 26’s new icons are a step backwards.

@OneFootTsunami Some of those icons (particularly Automator & Preview) really only make sense if you know the history behind them and where they came from. They've reached "floppy disk as save" and "old-school telephone handset for end call" levels of abstraction for new users.
@OneFootTsunami @siracusa iOS icons are terrible too! I keep thinking my Safari icon is in squircle jail. No, it’s just sad-looking.
@Kubi @siracusa Somehow, iOS annoys me less - perhaps because it’s always had squircle icons? I don’t love them though, and the updated Safari is sad. One benefit, though, is it’s now less blue. I find that particularly on iOS, I subconsciously pick out icons by color (since shape isn’t available as a differentiator). Of course, that’s also meant launching Photos when I want Slack, or the reverse. 🤦‍♂️

Not having it. I installed ReplaceIcon and reverted to irregularly shaped icons wherever possible.
@OneFootTsunami The ghost of Steve Jobs would fire the icon designers.
@OneFootTsunami It’s almost like they decided to go back to skeuomorphism but they completely forgot how it works.
Oh, so THAT'S what the new Preview icon is supposed to be? 🤯
OMG, I just realised the new Tahoe Preview icon has a spectacularly useless (and barely visible) "PREVIEW 10x" text on it 🤷‍♂️
