@homtec I'm also just starting, I have a Heltec T114 v2 and T1000-E.

You don't need to put a repeater up to join the mesh but if you want to it depends on your situation:

Do you want it outdoor solar powered, or indoor grid powered. Based on that there are various ways to go depending on if you want a pre-made package or tinker around a bit.

I found the T114 v2 perfect to get started with, flashing it is very easy, you can put it on companion or repeater mode. Great small and cheap device.

@djh thank you! Not sure if an indoor repeater makes sense as I assume limited range. But for sure easier to get started. I will look where to get an T114v2
