#TeamDroid was launched in 2022 with a level pack called "Jam Levels". The first level is a very gentle introduction, with only some inconveniently placed walls as obstacles. Strider is a good introductory robot to choose for this level, as Strider can always step forward. More adventurous players might try Thinker, who has the potential to move much faster. The conveyor belts in the second of the Jam Levels in #TeamDroid are more a help than a hindrance. Get your droid on the right track, and the conveyor belts will carry you towards your destination. Strider and Thinker are both good droids to choose for this level. Strider can always step forward, and Thinker has a large memory allowing for many actions every turn. In the third of the Jam Levels, the conveyor belts turn from friends into enemies. The only way to access the top area with the data card is to jump. You can either choose the Bouncer droid, as I did here, or pick up the spring. It's technically possible to complete this level without picking up the data card, but it would be a very long solution! The fourth of the Jam Levels in #TeamDroid is a labyrinth, with turntables that turn your droid in the most unhelpful directions. The ideal droid for this level is Strider, who is equipped to step left and right, as well as forward and backward, and always has the "Step Forward" instruction available in ROM. You can't push the card around in this level, so Multibot is out of the question. Get the game from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid #ibmpc #msdos #cga
The fifth of the Jam Levels in #TeamDroid is another labyrinth-like level, with some awkward conveyor belts getting in the way. With hindsight, Strider would have been a better droid to use, but Thinker's large memory was too tempting. The "Take Item" instruction wasn't available when Thinker passed the walker object, which would have allowed sidestepping. Get the game from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid #ibmpc #msdos #cga
The sixth of the Jam Levels is a gentle introduction to Teleporters. The conveyor belts are a half-hearted obstacle; you can just drive straight over them and remain on course. Or even stop and allow them to transport you laterally. Carrier is a good droid for this level, as you won't be left waiting for a "Take Item" action to appear in the library. Guard droids are introduced in the seventh of the Jam Levels. They have a set list actions that they follow every turn. Sometimes they shoot, sometimes they just patrol. Watch them on the first turn to see what they do. Contact with them is fatal. In this level, you need to avoid their path as you take the data card to the reader. With Soldier or Multibot you could shoot them, but that's probably a waste of time here. Get #TeamDroid from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid #ibmpc #msdos #cga
There's no sneaking past the guards on the eighth of the Jam Levels in #TeamDroid. They watch over the entrance to the room with the data card and reader, firing their phasers at the end of every turn. They only way in is to shoot one or both of the guards, to clear the way. After that, the task is simple. The obvious droid for this task is Soldier, although Multibot will do fine, too. Get the game from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid #ibmpc #msdos #cga
The ninth of the Jam Levels in #TeamDroid introduces forcefields and their generators. Forcefields are lethal, and can only be switched off by shooting the attached generator. The obvious robot for any shooting task is Soldier, with its built-in phaser, and the constant availability of the Shoot action in ROM. Soldier has already used this to great effect to destroy a guard that was patrolling the level. Get the game from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid #ibmpc #msdos #cga
The tenth of the Jam Levels in #TeamDroid bring the guards, forcefields and generators from the previous level, and add to them piles of crates that need moving out of the way. Soldier is an obvious choice for this level, and its phaser is a straightforward way of dealing with the crates. The guards can be shot or avoided at your choice, although shooting them makes things easier. Get the game from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid #ibmpc #msdos #cga
The eleventh of the Jam Levels is the only one that needs Multibot. The configuration of this forcefield needs both a gun to shoot the generator, and a spring to jump over the remaining forcefield, and Multibot is the only one that carries both. There are no handy items for other robots to pick up and use around the level. I designed it this way to make sure players got experience of using Multibot. The twelfth and final level from the #TeamDroid Jam Levels introduces the concept of multiple droids working together. One droid has to shoot the generator from the top chamber. Another needs to get the data card from the right chambers, and pass it through to a third droid in the bottom chamber, who must jump over the remaining teleporter to deposit the data card in the reader.
