@irgendwienet @royaards @levampyre yeah, at first i though they needed cross belt drives, but you do want the two wheels to go in the same direction, you just don't want them connected, i think the downward one is just drawn too far to the right, creating confusion.

The other way around I think: wheels are connected and go in opposite directions. But the biggest one is not connected to the conveyor belt.

I really don't get it.
Unicycle wheels go cw, the big shaft underneath goes ccw. As the unicycle wheels are connected to the thin shaft, that one goes cw. Cogs go in the direction of their respective shaft (opposite directions) and are connected. Small cog goes cw so the conveyor belt goes up.

I don't see where a cross belt drive is needed here, all the directions add up.

@irgendwienet @royaards @levampyre Hm. I just imagined some arrows pointing in the directions of rotation and everything seems correct. Bike wheel goes clockwise, thus turning the bar (and connected gear) it stands on ccw. The belt goes to the other bar, still connected to the bike wheel, turning that bar ccw, too. All's fine.

@oneiromanticor Alternatively, the belt may be providing all the drive, while the wheels are riding on a sleeve bearing over a stationary structural shaft. @irgendwienet @royaards @levampyre

@oneiromanticor both bars go ccw - that's right. the gears seem to touch each other (but one could discuss that) thus will block if both bars rotate in the same direction. @royaards @levampyre

@irgendwienet I think the left bar goes into the same gear as the right one, powering the same gear. The second gear is not connected to any bar, but touches the first gear and thus moves the belt. It's an issue of perspective. But then it is also just a cartoon and we should probably not overthink it?

@alterelefant of course: some trickling needs to happen so that poor people keep pedaling. It does not need to be a lot, just on a regular basis so that when one starts doubting, one can see the trickle happen and say โ€œI told you so!โ€ Cc @royaards
