Pop Culture Library Review
This post begins with an image with Nana Aokaze, who is speaking and with the black hair and with the blue vest suggests to Meroron (with the grey hair and in the foreground) that they go to another library to find the book she is looking for. This is from 35th episode of You and Idol Pretty Cure. Sorry for the blurriness, but I took this screenshot on my phone, then cropped it, so that is why you may see the black space around the image. (1/?)
As I note in the beginning of my post, each of these has been watched or read during the past month. I came across some in #webcomics (two series) and #anime (one series), but not in other mediums, while noting #librarian characters listed on Behind the Voice Actors and about the upcoming anime film adaptation of Whoever Steals This Book, which I'm excited to watch. I also brought in some reviews of the South Korean film, #YourLetter, as well. There may be spoilers, so be aware. (2/?)
You and Idol Pretty Cure strikes again with another episode in the same library. I previously noted, on this blog, that the previous episode, entitled "Meroron’s Friend," released on Crunchyroll on August 23rd, follows other #PrettyCure series with library episodes, like Hug! Pretty Cure, Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure, Glitter Force (aka Smile PreCure!), Tropical-Rouge! PreCure, and Witchy Pretty Cure!! ~ Mirai Days~). https://popculturelibraries.wordpress.com/2025/09/02/recently-added-titles-august-2025/ (3/?)

Pop Culture Library Review

In that post, I said...

"A lot happens in the #library in this episode...Meroron...[goes] to the library to cool off after running away, declaring she cannot be friends with the other protagonists, &...[was] greeted by Nana Aokaze...the villain, Chokkirine...checks out a book aptly about retaining employees (aptly entitled “How to Keep Employees from Quitting”), & the #librarian acts friendly...the villain does not like her overly positive energy...and decides to trap her in a monster..." (4/?)

"[The monster]...shoots out books as weapons against the protagonists. After the librarian is freed from the monster and comes to it again....Nana checks out the book on a ribbon...for Meroron...This episode shows that even villains use the library for information, with this local library well used..." (5/?)
"...when the monster attacked people fled and for good reason. I wonder what would people think when the library damage was just repaired magically. How would they react?...This #librarian seems remarkably young, making me think they are a #volunteer, and it seems a bit odd they are wearing a smock. Perhaps this library is geared toward younger children?" (6/?)
"...Clearly Meroron...is in the children’s section at one point. In any case, Chokkirine is a jerk for attacking this librarian who helped her, getting her a book which would, if she followed it, help reduce her evil organization’s retention problems, and was nice and friendly. I’d ban Chokkirine from the library after this, since she...attacked an employee. She deserves that..." (7/?) #libraryrules #libraries
In the episode "A Surprise Amusement Park Date?!", while Uta and Kaito go on a date to the local #amusement park (which she insists is not a date), her other friends go on their own #dates. Nana goes on a date with Meroron to the library, while Kokoro and Purirun go a date to the beach. (8/?)
While at the #library, Meroron is disappointed that they do not have the #book she is looking for, but Nana suggests they could find it in another library. Sure enough, they do find this book, like Nana had guessed, delighting Meroron. (9/?)
The book is entitled, curiously enough, Encouragement of Dating, possibly implying that Meroron wants to take her sister, Purirun out on a date, a prospect she likely wouldn't object to, knowing her character from watching this series. So, their #library date is a success! (10/?)
Meroron laments to Nana that someone else has already borrowed the book. (11/?)
Meroron happily holds the book that she wanted to get, with Nana happy that she got what she was looking for. (12/?)
There's various #webcomics with #library scenes, like... Girlfriend Manual "Ep. 33 - Stage 3: START!" https://www.webtoons.com/en/romance/girlfriend-manual/ep-33-stage-3-start/viewer?title_no=7343&episode_no=33 (13/?)

I had originally planned for their being zero #comics for this month, but when writing up my review for Girlfriend Manual, I learned that I was wrong. The 33rd episode of the latter comic has Athena meet her friends at the local #library to talk about the next stage of her plan to get a cute barista at a nearby cafe to date her. Predictably, her plan fails when she sees Levi, losing her train of thought. (18/?)
The 47th issue of the same #comic has Levi and Athena having a chance meeting at the local #library where she is looking for a #book to help improve her #story, which she plans to submit. In the next issue, she ends up giving it, a book entitled The Seven Husbands of Hugo, to Levi and musters up her courage asks her out on a date. (19/?)

I even mentioned this in my aforementioned review of the comic:

"They end up meeting each other in the library, where Athena gives her a copy of The Seven Husbands of Hugo, likely a reference to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which is about Hugo's life during the seven marriages, and affairs, she experiences. If so, that book somewhat refers to the insecurities both Athena and Levi have about dating."

"...Soon thereafter, Athena musters her courage and asks Levi out on a date. A few days later, they travel to an amusement park, including going into a haunted house, on a rollercoaster, and other rides. Athena brushes away her thoughts that it will go horribly. Everything seems to be going well until Levi hears from Josh that someone was assigned to write about her sister Annika." https://okazu.yuricon.com/2025/10/22/girlfriend-manual/ (21/?)

Lastly, there's an issue/episode of another girl's love webcomic, Stasis, with the protagonist, Cherish "Cher," talking to her friend Kat, while sitting in the library, about going to a K-pop concert that she was planning to go to with her girlfriend, before her girlfriend Jane dumped her. However, Kat hates crowded places and refuses to go. In the issue that follows this, her friend Kat says she knows that Cher is hurting from the breakup with a girl she had been with for two years. (22/?)
In later issues, she tries to give away the tickets, letting her friends know that she broke up with Jane, She ends up giving away the tickets for free to a woman named Elle (formerly Leslie). The latter calls Cher the only good thing from her childhood. (23/?)
The Wonderland had a scene, near the end of the film, with the characters going into a study to create a "millennium anchor" for the Prince, to give him confidence, but they never use any books from the sides of the study, so sadly, it is just set dressing. I hope I watch more films with libraries, librarians, and the like in the days, weeks, and months to come. (24/?)
I was looking some voice actors to contact and I searched the word "Librarian" on Behind the Voice Actors and came up with all sorts of results, including in series I haven't written about on this blog, particularly in the following. I've noted postings in which I've mentioned these series before, and where these #librarians show up, in each episode. I have not watched any of these series, films, or other media as of yet. (25/?)
Like, for instance, I have posts about #librarians in The Ancient Magus Bride: Those Awaiting a Star (and in a post scheduled for next year entitled "From armed librarians to high school librarians: Examining twelve voice actors"), but not The Ancient Magus' Bride Season 2, to give an example. https://popculturelibraries.wordpress.com/2022/11/15/behind-the-screen-japanese-voice-actors-who-bring-fictional-librarians-to-life/, https://popculturelibraries.wordpress.com/2024/05/28/fictional-libraries-as-places-of-refuge-and-knowledge/ (26/?)

Many of these series had only been put together in a draft post I had started years ago, aiming to examining all of them, a post which never came to fruition, but I may use if I write about these librarians. (27/?)
I also briefly mentioned Kino's Journey before (it will also be part of the aforementioned scheduled post for next year, as will Oh Yeah! Cartoons), while Pound Puppies, will be part of another post I have scheduled for next year, entitled "Behind the scenes continued: Voice actors and the librarians they voice." https://popculturelibraries.wordpress.com/2022/05/17/fictional-librarian-of-the-month-gabrielle-in-i-lost-my-body/ (28/?) #anime #libraries #librarians

Additionally, Oh Yeah! Cartoons will be mentioned in an upcoming post, for next year, entitled "From tired Black women to sadistic librarians: Examining ten uncredited librarians in animated series." (29/?)
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Rugrats will be mentioned in that post too. (30/?)
As for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I have written about that series for years on here, with my last post mentioning the series back in August 2024 (see below), and previous posts in October 2023, January 2023, December 2022, March 2022, and February 2021. https://popculturelibraries.wordpress.com/2024/08/09/librarians-are-magic-fictional-magical-libraries-and-why-this-perception-is-problematic/ (31/?)

Similarly, I have written about #Rugrats for years, a series which will be featured in two scheduled posts next year. I most recently talked about the series in October 2024 (see below), and before that in August 2024, October 2023, August 2023, May 2023, November 2022, August 2021, May 2021, and April 2021. https://popculturelibraries.wordpress.com/2024/10/22/the-sounds-of-silence-kiff-shushing-and-quiet-in-the-library/ (32/?)
