Just so you know, we need to push back against privacy-invasive regulations.
Each and every time.

Shrugging and using a VPN will not save you. They will come for the VPNs next.
Then the ISPs.
Then more.

Pushing against unjust laws matters.
The tools alone will not save you in the long run.

@Em0nM4stodon

I agree completely.

I use a VPN at all times, and I see it as only one tool, and frankly, I use it for reasons that have nothing to do with anonymity.

I use it whenever I visit a site, where I already have an account, that's already tied to my real world identity; my anonymity is totally negated in that context; they don't need my IP address; they already have my real name.

At this point, I just don't want someone to be able to DDoS me and/or my site, honestly. All it would take would be for some random person to get pissed, and learn my IP address, and blow up my router. I realize this is probably an uncommon reason for using a VPN, and probably an unrealistic fear to have, and I don't care. I expose this site through Cloudflare Tunnel anyway, and that theoretically should be enough, and there's still no reason why I wouldn't also use a VPN anyway.

I don't always have a reason to care if they know who I am; I just don't want my router to explode.

@Em0nM4stodon That's why I moved all my online backups to a Swiss server. They take that stuff extremely seriously. (I have Swiss family. They take most things seriously, haha).

No need to use a VPN when an automatic AI screen recorder can do all for you since everyone upgrades to windows 11.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-new-recall-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/

New Windows AI feature records everything you’ve done on your PC

Recall uses AI features “to take images of your active screen every few seconds.”…

@Em0nM4stodon in Sweden the ISP are already compromised. They need to keep extensive metadata. And I don't see that getting any better.

Phone carriers are used all the time to spy on citizens.

We can not let it become worse. Fight in any way you can!

@Em0nM4stodon

They shall have to rip my cold dead cable modem router from hands.

@Em0nM4stodon if you let it slide, it will slide up your ass!
@Em0nM4stodon Also there are people who can't afford or know how to use privacy tools. Privacy should be automatic and not require being a tech person.
@Em0nM4stodon couldn't agree more. These classified annexes in these HR's are of great concern to me. What say you?
@Em0nM4stodon just came back from TX. It was appalling to have to verify your age online.

@Em0nM4stodon The thing is that now the web-browsers want to record everything you do in a web-browser with AI features … so they can get to know you better.

#surveillance #banking #privacy

@Em0nM4stodon Agreed. Privacy is something important, something to fight for. If not, they will find ways and use it against you. They always do (penalties, price hikes for insurances.. you know).

And this is another trick they are trying to pull..

@Em0nM4stodon
You refer to #AgeVerification. Assume there is a method where a website can get an age verification from the user which only answers the question "is the user above x ?" without disclosing any other user data. Do you oppose requiring adult wesites to use such a method?

@Em0nM4stodon +9001%

Also it's important tocteach #DigitalSelfDefense and spread #TechLiteracie to #Normies and #TechIlliterates.

@Em0nM4stodon More generally: we cannot personal solutions our way out of a systemic problem.

People who can't or don't want to use a VPN for one reason or another deserve privacy too.

People who don't know why they should want privacy deserve privacy too.
