It feels a little on the nose for Trump to have a Great Gatsby Halloween party as the government shutdown drags into a second month, workers go without pay, and food assistance is cut off for the needy. Then again, the irony will be lost on most Republicans who think Gatsby is about fun parties and not the rot at the heart of American wealth.

@augieray Is this for real? Did Trump really host a Great Gatsby themed Halloween party?

What next, a Versailles themed feast with a Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette theme? With cake?

@augieray Most Republicans haven't read the book.

Perhaps Drumpf will end the same way as Gatz.

@augieray

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

if you haven't read it.......

@augieray On point. The book is about moral rot, cruelty, hubris, greed, envy, and the obsessive selfish accumulation of wealth and things by the morally bankrupt and corrupt, adultery, a crime, a murder, and the funeral of a "star" mourned by almost no one.

Sounds about right.

The death of irony also unmourned.

@augieray I don't believe Trump cares. I think he's out for the wealthy and doesn't really care. He is so over inflated with ego that he thinks he can do whatever he wants.
@augieray "Back before books were about politics"
@augieray They obviously never read it.
