Annual reminder that a black cat crossing your path is good luck actually, because it signifies that you got to see a cat

@PavelASamsonov It's funny how people always associate black cats with bad luck. In the house I grew up in, they were considered lucky!

Black cat crossing your path is lucky in the UK - or it used to be, American culture is taking over the Anglosphere
@mynameisrichard @PavelASamsonov A black cat is generally associated with good luck in Britain..
@PavelASamsonov The cat that crossed my path today was a tortie. Extra good luck.
@PavelASamsonov have a black cat on my lap as i type this
@PavelASamsonov can confirm; have had excellent luck since getting a black cat!
@PavelASamsonov It's only bad luck if you don't offer to pet the cat. :p

@PavelASamsonov If I see a black cat, I do what I always do when I see any cat:

I stop and say, "Hello cat." (Or the cat's name if available.) And then I wait and see if it likes me. If it approaches me, I extend my hand. And if I'm lucky, I get to pet the cat.

@PavelASamsonov A few months ago, a black kitten crossed my path while I was walking near a parking garage at a local mall. She seemed hungry.

The cat distribution system works. I now have a 6-month-old chaos void living in my house.

@KellyLepo @PavelASamsonov this is how it begins. Ours started as a tiny black fluffball at the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago. She became a miniature panther. Loved her so much ❤️
@PavelASamsonov As the staff to a black cat, I maintain that him crossing my path is most likely to be bad luck for him, because oh crap sorry dude I cannot see you in the dark!
@LisaMaesie Also holds true for grey cats. Also also holds true for grey cats trying to slip past you into the kitchen and often, oh so often, flicking the tip of their tail into the slit between the door and the wall, you know the one, there are hinges there and it tends to disappear as the cat goes "MEOOWWWWW!" @PavelASamsonov
@LisaMaesie @PavelASamsonov I cant say for sure that Odie has ever crossed my path. Its more like he marches directly up to me and starts making demands.

@PavelASamsonov

I'm extra lucky. I have a black cat.

@PavelASamsonov if you see a cat sound the alarm to scare away all living birds, reptiles and small mammals so they will not be caught by the cat.
@PavelASamsonov It's the cats you *don't* see that will get you

@PavelASamsonov With me that black cat crossing my path is reminding me it's time for her dinner.
Actually, remembering the cat’s body under your bicycle wheels after you flipped over your handlebar is the one that counts as “luckily I’m still alive” (so was the cat, apparently, maybe -1 on her stack).
@PavelASamsonov I saw a black cat jump onto the light rail car I was in a couple years ago. The cat rode two stops then got off. I had a great day; not so sure about the cat.

@PavelASamsonov I've always thought that.

Black cats are my people.

@PavelASamsonov Traditionally, my people have always seen a black cat crossing your path as good luck (or specifically as a sign of prosperity to come, particularly if you feed the cat.

Black cats have long walked the line between superstition and symbolism. In some places, their sleek coats and piercing eyes are unfairly linked to bad luck,

@PavelASamsonov this void constantly crosses my path, and I am so blessed because of it.
I must have good luck; she hasn't actually managed to trip me up yet, despite all her efforts.

@PavelASamsonov I miss my parents' late black cat. She was so lovely!
@PavelASamsonov
A black cat crossing your path means the cat is going somewhere
@PavelASamsonov I thought it meant bad luck because even if you stopped and crouched down while not looking at the cat, said cat did not accept your invite to come and sniff at you and maybe even deign to accept some scritches

@PavelASamsonov I don't understand why people are so scared of black cats. I need to resist the urge to kidnap them.

I will have a black cat named Salem, mark my words
