"Countries that slide from democracy toward autocracy tend to follow similar patterns. To measure what is happening in the United States, the Times editorial board has compiled a list of 12 markers of democratic erosion, with help from scholars who have studied this phenomenon. The sobering reality is that the United States has regressed, to different degrees, on all 12.”

Opinion | In Trump’s America, Are We Losing Our Democracy?

Donald Trump has wielded power as no previous president has.

The New York Times
@davidho This is their Halloween bit, scaring their right-wing readership into thinking the NYT will defend democracy and truth again.

@davidho

I can only assume that The NY Times Editorial Board’s twelve criteria includes: major American legacy media (The NY Times) actively working to elect totalitarian criminal for position of president. It was an eight-plus year effort.

@davidho

I'm not actually interested in the NYT assessment of democracy. They are an enemy of democracy so their opinions can't be trusted. They are not honest, they aren't objective, and they are supporting the Fascists.

NYT also didn't have a problem with hitler either so...........

A retired policeman posted a Charlie Kirk meme. He spent a month in jail.

The 61-year-old Tennessee man plans to sue after authorities dropped charges over a political Facebook post. Free-speech advocates say it’s a symptom of a wider crackdown.

The Washington Post

@davidho A handy status report and how-to guide from the NYT. Sweet!
@davidho America is losing its democracy at the same rate Trump is losing his mind.
@davidho "We here at the NYT are proud of the part we have played in this transition, but didn't think it would work _quite_ this well, this quickly."

@davidho This article is optimistic.

We're much further down the authoritarianism path that it portrays.
