I have a hard time believing I did this.

I was offered to go down into a basement full of books and take whatever I wanted without paying for them.

Told myself I didn't have space & walked away.

Told my wife and she asked what I did with her husband.

For context, in the past, I had a 2 room apartment with a kitchen and bath. When we moved, my books filled up 4 rooms of our new to us rental house.

@cainmark Honestly, thatโ€™s one of the reasons I like ebooks. Itโ€™s hard to find new homes for books as you get older too.
@cainmark If you have some spare funds you could hire a storage unit for overflow books. Just saying ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ“š

@Kay

No, not a good idea. I've read all of my own books, and I plan on using the public library as often as I can now.

My rule was that if I brought 1 home I had to get rid of 2.

But that didn't account for gifts.

@cainmark I know it's not a good idea, When my mother died my brother and I eventually emptied the house that she had shared with my father who had died previously. I took with me boxes of books and photo albums and sundry other items. I hired a store unit for a couple of months intending to sort and dispose of items.

Instead I moved other items in, including boxes and bags of books. Years later they're still there. I try to visit every so often to reduce the pile but I get too emotional about it unpacking at sitting with items.

My own home is overflowing with books too. I still visit library sales in case the book I'm missing from a series turns up. It feels like rehoming a rescue cat or dog.

My donations to little free libraries haven't kept up with my acquisitions ....

Book addiction is mostly harmless but my home would feel less crowded if I wasn't in love with books.

@cainmark

Wow. That wins scary Halloween story of the year.
