A friend of mine told me he didn't think he had it in him to be a good person. So he started to say to himself, "Be less of an asshole today than you were yesterday. Every day".

He is, deep down, a good person, but different traumas left serious scars and defenses.

So *of course* I thought it was some kind of weird insult.

Stupid brain.

They were validating me.

I have a hard time believing I did this.

I was offered to go down into a basement full of books and take whatever I wanted without paying for them.

Told myself I didn't have space & walked away.

Told my wife and she asked what I did with her husband.

For context, in the past, I had a 2 room apartment with a kitchen and bath. When we moved, my books filled up 4 rooms of our new to us rental house.

No one told me about the third, the one I've sometimes experienced.

Sometimes with a blackout so you don't remember the situation you didn't ask for.

People are not "making that up".
