Words matter. When the NY Times says Trump is "float[ing] the possibility of finding a way to circumvent the 22nd Amendment," they are saying it's just a small matter. No biggie.

In fact, he is threatening to FLOUT, VIOLATE, or DEFY the 22nd Amendment. It's an emergency.

@gleick

another form of fascism: turning constitutional violations into semantic muzak.

@gleick He's had a stroke. That's pretty clear. Maybe more than one. From his other visible symptoms it looks like renal failure is also taking place. When he "disappears" on a regular schedule like he has that's probably for dialysis.

@theicarian @gleick

I'm looking forward to reading his obit.

@gleick @theicarian no election, no violation πŸ€”
@craignicol why bother violating Amendments, when you can violate directly the Constitution? πŸ€” @gleick @theicarian
@gleick Please let him be incapable of even trying this when the time comes.
@dan613 @gleick
Do you really think everything will just snap back to how it used to be once Trump is gone?
I mean, look at all the damage that's already been done. First of all the crooked Supreme Court, and they are appointed for life...

@gleick you say he's floating the idea of circumventing the 2nd amendment?

Innocent typo, watch his base explode *evil grin*

@gleick They did an MRI on his brain and found nothing.
@gleick MRI failed to detect human BRAIN mass.

@gleick Doesn't sound like taking "care that the laws are enforced", eh ?

also: worthless on his best day, incited overthrow of USG, makes the Secret Service rent rooms at his properties ...

@gleick

Makes sense, since The NY Times put so much effort into electing Trump in the three most recent presidential elections.

@gleick the only people in this country worse than Trump are the people whom we know might allow this.

It doesn't matter if he dies first or not. The fact that he can say this without consequence and we can have legitimate fear for such a thing means that the country we thought we grew up in is over. Defeated by a political party that values power and force over anything.

The enemy of democracy is not just Trump, it is the party that is allowing this travesty to continue.

@gleick we should probably never forget that the single unifying force behind the entire conservative party is trying to force other people into doing things.

That's why they seek power. That is why they like guns. Sometimes it is to force you to put up with their waste, fraud, exploitation, and abuse. And the unifying principal behind the liberal party that opposes them is to maintain the maximum amount of freedom for the maximum number of people.

@Urban_Hermit @gleick Mitch McConnell laid the groundwork and should be remembered as the destroyer of Democracy and the end of society as we know it. The rich will win a pyrrhic victory. Without society to support them, they have nothing.
@gleick For a man who took an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, he doesn't seem to be that concerned about preserving, protecting, and defending the Constitution of the United States.
@gleick
Clearly it's time for Obama to bypass the 22nd amendment.
@gleick And don't forget: 12th Amendment says VP must be qualified to be POTUS, so no electing him VP, either

@gleick

Thank you for continuing to point out how the New York Times consistently puts a finger on the scale in their faux balance act. Words do indeed matter and the New York Times is expert at using words to manipulated public opinion. That they employ this kind of subtle wordplay just makes them more effective and dangerous since it maintains the disguise of neutral arbiter.

@gleick Not only that he is looking at throwing out Biden's pardons cause of the autopen. There is no rule he won't get around and so many people are ok or ignorant about the existential danger they are in. Just because they think they are in the in group now doesn't mean they will not be harmed by this administration...
@gleick It's been "an emergency" for a long time. Donald has flouted one law / convention / whatever after another and there has been relatively little opposition but bluster. Why would this be any different?

@gleick

He's also doing this to distract from his blocking the release of the Epstein papers.

@gleick
He copies Putin, Xi and Hitler.
He can not think for himself.
