MPI for Gravitational PhysicsOn this day eight years ago, a very special stamp was announced.
The stamp features a numerical-relativity simulation of gravitational waves from a binary black hole coalescence. This simulation models the waves that were detected in September 2015 as GW150914, marking the first ever observation of this kind.
The simulation was performed by members of the “Astrophysical and Cosmological Relativity” department at the @mpi_grav in Potsdam.
