I'm on #proton now instead of Gmail, preparing to move from Spotify to #deezer and have already moved from google to #homeassistant. #filen is my new cloud storage. None of these new services feel inferior or less user friendly and I feel good about myself. I'm slowly reclaiming my freedom from big tech
@iam_jfnklstrm is deezer better than Spotify?
@azzale I think so - they have even more music.
@iam_jfnklstrm @azzale Another one to consider is qobuz as they pay labels/artists more than other streaming services and also have high resolution audio. They even let you *buy* music. (A downside is the occasional software bug, but nothing's perfect.)
@underlap @iam_jfnklstrm @azzale oh thank you so much for the Qobuz recommendation. I've been looking for somewhere to buy music from since Google shut down their store. Bandcamp is good, but selection is limited.
@nocalla @iam_jfnklstrm @azzale Glad to help. Please note I haven't actually bought any music from qobuz, so I can't vouch for how easy it is to "liberate" from the app. etc.
@underlap @iam_jfnklstrm @azzale downloaded some files there without any app or membership, so seems good!

@nocalla @iam_jfnklstrm @azzale Excellent. That's one way to avoid bugs in the app!

Will you play them via your phone? If so, how?

@underlap @iam_jfnklstrm @azzale I use the Phonograph app for local playback on Android, but I will also add them to my local media server to play via MusicAssistant.
@azzale @iam_jfnklstrm Consider Qobuz as well. High quality streaming plus a download store so you can own your media.
@iam_jfnklstrm Look into JellyFin add-on for Home Assistant. Copy your old CD collection, downloads, etc. into JellyFin and stream from there. It works really well for me.
