Twenty years ago today, Apple introduced Aperture. 📷
@BasicAppleGuy Aperture was such a great power tool.
@BasicAppleGuy
I loved Aperture, and miss it. Capture One is good, but nothing like as smooth and polished as Aperture was.
@BasicAppleGuy I still want it back. 🥺
@BasicAppleGuy one of my favorite software titles ever. Its fate makes me afraid for one of my other favorites, Pixelmator Pro.

@BasicAppleGuy I never forgive them to have it deprecated in favor of the Photos App.

Tried to install and use it at different times in the past, but it was not running stable.

This would be the best alternative to Lightroom on the market (imho).

@fastjack25 @BasicAppleGuy
I heard that a company with very popular applications (photo, vector, video) was suggesting Apple to end Aperture or none of their apps would see a new version for OS X

@matzelocal @BasicAppleGuy I see what they did there. And i think it worked.

I guess, a lot of user changed to LR after the loss of Aperture (me included at that time) given the fact, that the photos app was no valuable replacement.

@BasicAppleGuy Times like these... great tool!
@BasicAppleGuy I wish it was still available today… and I blame more Adobe than Apple for the end of Aperture.

@BasicAppleGuy

Such a shame, my favorite photo-editing software. Now use Capture one, which is good but the UI in Aperture was my favorite.

@BasicAppleGuy I am still salty aperture is gone.
@Migueldeicaza @BasicAppleGuy :( There's always Nitro/RAW Power from the same folks.
@ravishanker @BasicAppleGuy the aperture guys did a new app?
@Migueldeicaza @BasicAppleGuy Well, as per their site (https://www.gentlemencoders.com/about/index.html) the founder was the Eng lead for Aperture & iPhoto. He’s been at it for the past 10yrs and it’s one of the top rated alternatives for Lightroom (https://www.macobserver.com/tips/round-ups/best-adobe-lightroom-alternatives-5-apps-to-avoid-subscriptions/)
About

@ravishanker @BasicAppleGuy thank you for sharing this! I have *never heard of them* and I loved all those apps!

This is just incredible

@Migueldeicaza @ravishanker @BasicAppleGuy
And unlike Lightroom, it’s compatible with iCloud Photo Library including nondestructive editing.

Still nowhere as feature-rich as Aperture was, though. I miss Randy Ubillos.

@ravishanker @Migueldeicaza this is awesome and something I’ll definitely check out!
@Migueldeicaza @BasicAppleGuy Same here. Everything BUT the RAW development tools was so much better than Lightroom is even today. So sad.
@BasicAppleGuy I loved Aperture so much!
@BasicAppleGuy I really wish they’d kept this updated. Photo’s app really doesn’t text it for detailed editing tasks.
@BasicAppleGuy I still use aperture (via Retroactive). There’s no replacement for it. Unfortunately it doesn’t run as well as it used to and Retroactive isn’t supported anymore.
@BasicAppleGuy it was slow, but the user interface and organization was really good.
@BasicAppleGuy one of the best apple applications
@BasicAppleGuy I still miss its Light Table feature…
@BasicAppleGuy I keep an older Mac around just to still have Aperture 3. To me, it's peak Apple Professional App design and execution.
@BasicAppleGuy Aah, I loved aperture and was very disappointed when it was replaced by the Photos.app
@BasicAppleGuy one of the great apps.
