I am interested in #Solarpunk. However, I cannot sew my own clothes (though I could do visible mending), I do not have a garden for herbs, vegetables or fruit, I don't do some form of community work in my neighbourhood. (I do a bit of community work online.)
What I have started during the pandemic: making #candles from left over wax, with recycled glass jars. I also re-use the jars for new candles when the old ones have burned down.

So if there was a power outage, I would still have some lights and I could also give some to my neighbours.

In case you are interested how I DIY the candles, I can write a tutorial here in the thread.

@amalia12 Yes please! What are you using for wicks, especially?

@owenbiesel
Thank you.
Here is the tutorial. I added ALT-text, so if you use the Fediverse in a web browser on a laptop or PC, you can copy the text from the ALT-text if you like.

And like with all candles, think of fire safety always (don't let the candles burn unattendedly).

I forgot to mention the following in the tutorial: It is common that the wax gets firm in a strange way, with a sort of "valley" around the wick. I guess this is a thermal-physics phenomenon, but I have no scientific explanation to show you.

These "valleys" can be seen a bit in my photos. I do the following: I let the wax get firm, then later, I pour more wax into the "valley", that mostly does the trick. I didn't do that with all the candles in the photos.
