Hetzner has introduced new server plans (a bit newer, but a bit cheaper as well).

Will rescale the servers for mountains.social and mountains.photos at 12:30 CEST to benefit from this. This will cause a downtime for a couple of minutes.

And we're back. The servers on plan CX22 have been migrated to CX23 and the CX32 to CX33.

This will save us some (2.87 EUR, 14% on server costs), while keeping the same resources.

Looping in #MastoAdmin, #FediAdmin, #PixelAdmin, as lots of Fediverse instances run on Hetzner and might also want to benefit.

@jan A rescale of a server is very easy. You shutdown the server, choose the VM type you want, click rescale and after the rescaling the server is started automatically. The VM content itself will not change.

@bergmeister Thank you so much, I was not aware of this option. I immediately tried it, and this is excellent! (CPX21 -> CX33 went perfectly)

@bergmeister very useful, I was thinking of doing this. I'm surprised Hetzner are basically going to reduce my bills with these changes but I remain a faithful customer of this type of company. They even gave me a heads up to change! #sustainable #tech #ftw

@snookerarmchair I think their incentive is to 1) keep competitive and 2) push customers of legacy configs, so they have less configs to support. It is nice of them to inform you, I noticed by chance.
