What do you still use reddit for? - Lemmy.ca

Are you 100% lemmy/mbin/piefed for your forum/thread life or are you still using reddit for something?

Google search clicks. Forwarded posts from Reddit.
nah I stay away from facebook
huh?

exactly… they are all the same to me.

corporate garbage

@Fiivemacs @zjti8eit oh, that's what you meant haha
yeah, certain wasn’t clear to me ;-)
sorry I am not always clear when I speak/type
From recent experience it feels like Reddit is stricter with bans and access than FB, and applies more tracking and detection tech, lest your previously anonymous internet persona upset a mod.
I still use reddit for a few niche communities and browsing comments. I post alot and love my time here but the activity isnt enough to replace it for me yet

TV, Movie, Anime, Video Game, Discussion Threads.

It’s non-existent on Lemmy.

I don’t really post anything, I just lurk and read the discussion, don’t really have motivation to post since I’m kinda anti-corporate right now, but I just wanna absorb all the info they have to satisfy my brain’s curiosity.

I have it blocked (just the communities, not the users) so I can’t really say but isnt ani.social pretty popular? I see tons of users, I figured there’d be posts too

isnt ani.social pretty popular

lemmy.fediverse.observer/ani.social

172 monthly active users

lemmy.fediverse.observer/lemmy.world

14,934 monthly active users on lemmy.world.

EDIT: For good measure, over here at lemmy.today:

lemmy.fediverse.observer/lemmy.today

We’re at 306 MAU.

EDIT2: I don’t know for sure whether lurkers are counted as active users, mind.

Fediverse Observer checks all sites in the fediverse and gives you an easy way to find a home from a map or list or automatically.

Lemmy Sites Status. Find a Lemmy server to sign up for, find one close to you!

@glimse @tal I'm pretty sure MAU only includes those who post.
Nope, voting counts too.
Ahh ok, bummer then. When they first opened I was getting flooded with anime so I blocked it and assumed it continued to flourish
Communities that don’t exist or are inactive in the threadiverse: Jake and Amir; Northernlion; UFO 50; Eternal (card game)
The collegehumor guys? Didnt know they were still around
Yeah, they started their own company that mostly does podcasts but they still do some college humor style sketches.
I use reddit as a comparison when explaining lemmy and the fediverse to the uninitiated.
@n7gifmdn @Vandals_handle "it's like if reddit worked like email"
Problem is most young people nowadays won’t know how email works

Homelabsales, non-existent here

Harvesting of posts to help niche comms here, like [email protected]

Occasional Threadiverse advocations

Undervale Hotel - Lemmy Cafe

Comm for the Haunted Hotel Series Welcome, to the Undervale Hotel! Rule 1 - Abaddon carries the show, and you know it :)

On occasion I’ll check in on some niche hobby boards that don’t really have an active Lemmy variant, or large archive of content yet. Sometimes you want to see a flashlight beamshot comparison of a Nichia 519a 5000k led compared to a 5700k from a particular manufacturer, and it’s just not on Lemmy.
Note that while that’s probably true, if you’re interested and not aware, we do have [email protected] here.
Search results, r/iRacing and r/formula1

I remember the F1 communities here being pretty good and active around the reddit API change exodus times.

Not sure if they still are as I stay away due to not being able to watch most races live.

100% Lemmy. If I end up on reddit, it’s because I googled something.
Me too, except I’m 100% off Google too 😆
If the answer to my question is in a Reddit post, I’m going to look at it but I’m not logging in and posting.
I return for both the LEGO deals and leaks subreddits. I’ve been using lurkit.vercel.app as my viewer since I closed my reddit account.
Occasionally looking through my country’s subreddit. But even then I don’t have an account and access it through RedReader.
Any sort of in-depth discussion about games (War Thunder, Dota, CS, and a few others), talk about TV and books (although my tastes are admittedly more niche there), some more general lifestyle communities, and local communities. Basically, everything but news and politics.
I still use Reddit for niche topics and for polarizing topics. Lemmy feels like groupthink to me, especially about politics. It’s always “Ukraine good, Russia bad” and “Palestine good, Israel bad.” I like hearing both sides, but divergent opinions get smothered there.

When someone disagrees with you, you have the opportunity to more clearly define what you think. This might mean changing your mind to a greater or lesser degree; it could mean understanding more completely why you hold the view you already have. If the votes show that a lot of people disagree with you, well, conventional wisdom is often enough not very wise.

In my experience, fediverse people have been more reasonable than reddit people - but you're going to find petulant children on any public forum.

I agree with all of this except the derogatory use of the c-word.
Conventional? God dammit, I fucking did it again.

Enlightened centrism 101 folks. Reduce both sides until they have zero nuance so that you can ignore the substance of any given consensus.

I don’t see a slow drip of Christian right, just allowing themselves to be converted to this freewheeling mass known as the fediverse, one by one. They’d hop their own pirate barge on an instance, lobbing bible verses at us en masse.

I suspect we’re all looking forward to it too because it’s what the fediverse promised us. We get to be whatever we want to be, and god dammit we can float our own barges if we’re weird enough.

Peer pressure. As someone who grew up in it and left South park absolutely nailed it this past episode.

Real Christians wouldn’t have to change whatsoever to participate in lemmy/reddit. Because real Christians are too preoccupied loving others to be policing their sins.

If my large, angry (hypothetical) neighbour decides I'm an a-hole - and, let's say I am - it still doesn't give him the right to come into my house and beat me bloody. Nor does it give him the right to change the fences around the yards or remodel my house for me.
I’ve been a Christian for over 30 years, and I’ve never felt this at all. What are you seeing that I’m not?
Atheism 1.45K users / month, Religion 9 users / month

What would you even talk about on the religion community? Like of course it has no users it’s a pointless community. If not even dedicated to a religion but the concept of religion in general? That sounds so pointless.

“Hey Hindus don’t you love having religion? We sure do Jews. What about y’all Buddhists? Oh we love it. How’s it hanging Christians aren’t we glad we’re all here together?”

Lol.

Same. I’m an agnostic Christian. I adhere to the teachings and values of Jesus, but my definition of God doesn’t conform to the Bible’s and cannot be verified AFAIK.

They downvoted him for telling the truth.

Lemmy is an echo chamber.

It’s a feature of upvoting system - unpopular opinion is going to be buried by downvotes
Once in a while a Reddit thread will come up in search, reading that thread is the extent of my Reddit usage.
I use lemmy, blusky, and tumblr
@n7gifmdn @SoftestSapphic sounds like you should just use Friendica than you'd have all these. (as long as your instance has BlueSky and Tumblr plug-ins installed). You'd still need an account that exists on those two sites, but you wouldn't have to actually log into a separate webpage/app anymore.
per your other comment you can also add /r/ feeds via RSS, I might have to give Friendica a try.
We have porn here too.
Mostly weird cartoon porn.
Olaf is pretty good though. 😄
Can you drop some links 🧾

Oops, sorry. That’s “Oglaf” with a “g”, my mistake.

[email protected]

Most of which actually comes from Reddit.
Remarkably specific porn
Nowhere near enough though. Especially if you cut out the straight from reddit imports.
It’s all reposted stuff from elsewhere.
