I just found out through https://pota-map.info/ this one magic #POTA location here in town is not five "parks", but actually eight. Six long-range hiking trails, all starting at a point that's just within the confines of a National Park.

The POTA website not having a definitive, global database of park boundaries/trail courses can be a major source of frustration. There are multiple third-party mapping projects that each cover just one or maybe a couple of countries.

POTA-Map

pota-map.info – Interactive map of all Parks on the Air (POTA) locations for amateur radio operators in OZ, DL, LX, HB, HB0, OE, and OK. Find parks, plan activations, and discover new radio spots

@DC6ST the map is created an maintained by Heinz, DK5UR. One of the POTA admins of Germany. So it's basically an official map.

@DF1CN There are 248 associations in POTA. IMO the best decision POTA made was to unify core functions like QSO database/log upload/spots in a single website. WWFF has countless websites/e-mails, SOTA has separate log/spots websites.

The existence of pota-map.info, pota-map.fr, pota.radioexperiences.net and others clearly shows there is a real need for better mapping information on the official website. There shouldn't be 248 separate maps.

@DC6ST @DF1CN ...and that's not even getting into the wikis like https://pota.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page where people can leave notes for each other about parks. #AmateurRadio #POTA #hashtag

Parks on the Air
@DC6ST yeah Heinz #DK5UR did a really good job
@Do9rai And to think that Germany has "only" 1,332 parks, the people behind https://pota-map.fr/ had to collect data on 11,096 🫠
