Yes, we indeed have a serious problem.
@georgetakei You may in fact have 400 serious problems.
@ptesarik @georgetakei you're right, but it's one problem *class*

@georgetakei

And I bet that, within these 400 richest americans, the top 10 of them worth more than the bottom half of those 400.

Indeed, a serious problem.

@georgetakei I like Robert Reich but I don't like the phrasing of his post. I'd say "the 400 richest Americans _have a net worth of_ a record $6.6 trillion" and "the entire bottom 50% of America _has a net worth of_ just $4.2 trillion."

A person's WORTH is not measured by how much wealth they control.

@georgetakei
Un peu comme en France...
Gros souci effectivement !

@georgetakei

it's a long time ongoing
but these people by far gained so much power they're the ones that make a return to normal impossible

@georgetakei I'd just say it's a short list...
@georgetakei The Middle Class no longer exists. You are either one of the 400, or you are fodder for their bad ideas.
@georgetakei Aren't the remaining 49.999% still worth $149.6 trillion? Not that it isn't a serious, worldwide problem.

@georgetakei

Hey, that may be how much money they have, but I don't think that accurately reflects the "worth" of these people.

@georgetakei

This is just not normal…

@georgetakei

What you do not mention is much of the usa population is getting poorer while the obscenely rich gain wealth at an exponential rate.

The only way to heal your country will be a big big cleanup, there is no way that can not mean blood shedding.

@Kerplunk it's only bloodshed if the rich people make sure it is, though.
Happiness research indicates that spending more than ~$ 100k a year hardly increases one's happiness; so having about 10 million should be plenty for anybody. Alas, you don't get to control other people's lives then...
@georgetakei
@georgetakei Hmm...well haven't the people in the US voted for this through all the years? Having a two party system full of corruption allowing companies to infiltrate the political system behind the scenes. US hasn't been a democracy since a very long time.

@georgetakei They don't control it actually. Their wealth is in stock. They convert it to money via loans. That's why it's never taxed.

Sure nice that we think they do though, huh. I mean, how you do battle with 600BN USD? It's impossible. Don't try.

Their entire wealth structure is built on your back. YOU are that wealth, and you need to be controlled.

@georgetakei *the 400 richest US-Americans that disclosed their wealth or we have estimated.

There is no central register for rich people and convincing evidence that multiple trillionaires already exist

@georgetakei

Agreed! I have nothing against somebody being rich, if they are willing to help the less fortunate. Why are the rich usually so greedy and rarely philanthropic?

PS: Thank you for using #altText, Mr. Takei. I follow Mr. Reich on Mastodon and he NEVER uses alt text on images.

@georgetakei similar numbers here in Germany. It's for sure a global problem.
@georgetakei indeed.
