I was at the grocery store the other day, wearing a mask, as usual.
A woman stopped me and said, "thank you for wearing a mask when you're sick."
"Oh, I'm not sick."
A realization seemed to come over her face. She then said, "oh, so you don't get sick."
I haven't been sick in over 5 years.
@Em0nM4stodon @trendless honestly, covid could go away tomorrow and I would still do it. I'm lucky enough to not be immunocompromised, but my wife is.
Even that aside, it's such a simple thing that can have a huge impact for others. Plus, even if you're normally healthy, getting a cold or any virus sucks. I wish I started years ago.
@PeachMcD thank you for that. I know being "the lone masker" isn't easy in a work environment these days. I work from home now, but I was working in an office as an essential worker since almost the beginning of covid until about 3 years ago when I changed positions and was able to WFH.
Even after all the distancing and masking mandates were taken down, I never stopped masking. I know it's a lot easier for someone like me (I'm a cis white male who is 6'7" and ~270lbs) to do, but a lot of other people can be openly ridiculed and bullied about it. I hope that's not the case for you, but if it ever is, I applaud you even more for not stopping.
Coworkers are happy to pretend there's absolutely nothing going on. The expression "whistling past the graveyard" was never more apt

Hell yeah.
The only illness I've had was food poisoning from ordering delivery, ZERO flu, ZERO colds, ZERO coronavirus.
You simply don't get sick.
I hope we all continue to do this, so scientists can do a long term study on wearing masks, because I bet the incidence of illness for masked vs. unmasked is crazy different.
