Battlefield 6 is out, I do need more time with it (I played the beta test) but I can confidently say this is one of the best, and possibly the best, entry in the entire series. FWIW I played them all, including the ancient Codename Eagle (1999) which came before the classic Battlefield 1942 (2002). https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/battlefield-6-review/
Battlefield 6 review

The series that once languished in Call of Duty's shadow now has all the juice.

PC Gamer
my favorite Battlefield trivia: Robin Williams once said he loved playing Battlefield 2, presumably anonymously, and loved being a sniper in particular. He was a gamer, which is why the name Zelda is relevant to his family.
@codinghorror my last bf was 4. and when i learned it was pay to win, i quit giving ea money right on the spot
@codinghorror the beta was SO good, i just want a snapshot of it. My trauma response to Battlefield has kicked in and I have prepared myself for them somehow managing to ruin it in the release.
@shom I keep telling DICE they have kitchen-sink-itis, that is their main weakness.. they need to do more like BF2: BC with a tighter focus on the essentials, and less "all the things and all the game modes possible"
@codinghorror as much as I realize that all the skins and trinkets teams are different than development teams, it still seems like the wrong place to spend energy. Like you said, tighter focus 🤞🏽
@codinghorror I loved bad company 2, but never really played any of the others. I think I’ll like this new one?
@t9mike possibly, it is somewhat similar
@codinghorror This sure isn't what I thought this post would be about, given the combination of the illustration and the world outside! (That said I am happy to hear you're enjoying the game, sounds pretty cool honestly)
@codinghorror I just can't imagine any game rekindling how much fun I had playing Battlefield 1942. It was just a different time of life.
@Honkon it was definitely revolutionary for its time in a big way. I have the most nostalgia for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, then I’d say Battlefield 1.
@codinghorror any thoughts about the map size and game pace? 😁 Beta felt super chaotic and fast paced to me. I enjoy that from time to time, but not all the time. 😅
@SwishSwushPow I do feel the maps are lacking .. something. And not very many to choose from…
@codinghorror thanks for the insight! :) Hope you enjoy the first few days of multiplayer!
@SwishSwushPow in think they are still in the older style of Battlefield mindset when making maps.. and this demands a kinda different design. They are not bad (well at least one is) but there need to be more and better maps for this play style.
@SwishSwushPow interestingly that PC gamer review says the same thing as me though I had not read that far into it until now: “ My only beef is that there isn't enough peak Battlefield in Battlefield 6. The launch map pool of nine is overstuffed with maps that have drastically fewer vehicles and cramped bottlenecks that guarantee you'll either kill or be killed every 10 seconds. Iberian Offensive, Empire State, Saints Quarter, Siege of Cairo—they're intense, they're something different, but they don't represent what Battlefield is best at, and it's disappointing that they outnumber the maps that do.” Basically great game, kinda crap maps. That should be easy to fix I hope!!
@SwishSwushPow also I don’t agree with the reviewer that engineer is useless on the CQB maps. If you have unlocked enough kit options by leveling up, you have a serous SMG specialty by default and those are so dominant on small maps, plus you can blow so many buildings and so much cover up with your explosive skills..
