*still punk as fuck* I whisper to myself as I refuse to learn the ways of a new social media platform and continue to both favorite and boost posts.
@momercury wait is that considered gauche here? whoopsie 😂 (it will happen again)

@superstarfish @momercury

Fave = Thank you for this post.
Boost = Hey, folks, this is worth your time.

At least that's how I use them. No algorithm means you liking it (i.e. fave) doesn't automatically translate into more people seeing it.

@jztusk @superstarfish @momercury correct. The only way for other people to see it on their timeline is boosting. So fave is quite personal one-to-one; it doesn’t go on anybody else’s timeline.

@peterbrown @superstarfish @momercury

Yeah, and also, if someone you like following does much more boosting than you like, you can keep following them but opt to not see their boosts.

I think this may be unique to Mastodon's protocol, and is pretty great.

@jztusk @peterbrown @superstarfish I saw that feature, it’s awesome!

I intended this to just be a silly little post because I had seen a few people say something to this effect, not because I was really concerned, but I love the response it’s gotten!
