Attached: 1 image What it's like posting comics online.
Remember to add AI poison, words humans see as unneeded, but screws up AI scrapers.
@designthinkingcomic For me, I liked it better when presence of alt-text meant there was something worth reading in the alt. It might be a thoughtful description of the image, or it might be a long semi-concealed philosphical treatise on vagaries of life, or a sly poke for those in the know.
I'm interested in hearing from those who it was designed for: do you feel better served by today's "thou shalt" alt-text than yesterday's, when it's presence automatically meant that someone had been motivated to make the content accessible? (honest question)

Why is their head upside down?
@designthinkingcomic I quite literally see the boost button as greyed out when there's no alt text
Like, the ui looks the same, but my brain just reinterpreted the "no alt text" exclamation mark of my fedi client as "boost button disabled" lol
Hey DTC I can understand how the alt text culture around here might feel a bit wild, especially when you make these great comics with like sixteen panes and tons of text. Yeah, writing the text for those is a lot of work.
But also when you add that text you unlock a massive new audience. I was a bit perplexed years ago but now it's one of my favorite things about "fedi culture"
IDK I was worried you might feel singled out. Please don't.
Love the style of your drawings.
I do agree with putting an alt under every image and if my brain cannot brain there is a chance that I will not. However, I am willing to use an AI tool to assist so one can use this: https://imagedescriber.online/ (not affiliated with it, just mentioning it) See further down regarding privacy. /IF/ they really stick to their policy of course.
So it can be brief:
The image is a black and white cartoon. It shows a simple stick figure sitting in front of a computer. Above the computer screen, there's an icon that looks like the Mastodon logo saying "No alt text. No boost."
But you can also make it really detailed:
A minimalist comic depicts a sad person at a computer, with a Mastodon logo saying "No alt text. No boost."
The image is a single-panel comic with a simple, black-and-white, hand-drawn style. It is contained within a square border. A stick figure person sits at a desk, facing a computer. The person has a round head with two small, sad eyes. They are seated in a chair. The computer screen is large and black, with a stand. At the top of the screen, attached to a small stand, is the Mastodon logo. A speech bubble extends from the logo with the text "No alt text. No boost." The scene has a humorous yet slightly melancholic mood, highlighting the importance of accessibility and engagement within the Mastodon community.
