I made a flowchart to help you navigate the current enterprise IT landscape

@luci i think the flow chart is incomplete:

Do you need AI? | | | Is 0* equal to 13* -------- No, why are you even considering it | No | Yes | | | Consider taking a first-grade math class instead *Assuming standard u32's, as defined in RFC9669

@memdmp @luci Beautiful flow chart, it reminded me of a talk where the speaker's kid asked why 1 + 2 isn't equal to 12 (or something similar). The speaker thought about it for a while, and developed an alternate counting system to demonstrate the plasticity of math in a creative context—I don't have the link anymore but if you come across it the talk is well worth a listen :)
I forgor thay I set Ai to be changed to cancer in the wafrn settings, and got jump scared when I saw “Do you need cancer?”
@[email protected] ..this makes me want to make a very cursed and insensitive informercial based on the "why take diet pills when you can enjoy ayds" one
but it'd be insensitive as shit so no

@memdmp @luci Hi, I'm a maths PhD student and I wanted to let you know that 0 and 13 can very well be equal (of course not as elements of the integers, but [if you are interested] as elements of finite fields or other "counting systems"). My research only applies to such context, so for me the flowchart suggests to actually use AI, but I don't think I'm going to follow it 😉

(As a similar example consider the clock: 12 and 0 are the same, and we all accept it!)

@luci @noncommutativegeometry consider: this one rejects 12 hour clocks, opting for 24hr ones when being forced to, and 26 hour ones when not. As a result, 12 and 0 are not identical.
Additionally, in code it's written for it's 26-hour day-night cycling, it often does not consider 26 and 0 equal; 0(incl.)-26(excl.) are current date, >=26 is future days, <0 is previous days, hence not all accept it.

anyways the flowchart will be updated in 2-6 business minutes
@memdmp @luci like... yes and no? It has a great many disability / access aide utilities, but whatever.
@luci If you raise cattle you might need AI.
@captpackrat you don’t know how close to an in-joke we have at work with this lolol
@luci This should work for HigherEd/Humanities too!
@Thomaskirchner7 I officially release this flowchart as MIT licensed so it can be modified and used in any industry without limit. I didn’t save the chart though……
@luci
That flow chart is too complex so I asked ChatGPT to explain it... It told me to ask Claude.
@luci Your flowchart there could be implemented as an expert system, and therefore be AI. Ha!
@luci excellent flo-chart!
@SnowyCA why thanks there eh!

@luci You're welcome, eh!

😂 I caught that reference😂

@SnowyCA glad to see you’re not a hoser!
@luci Trying not to be one, good to know I am succeeding.
@luci I always ask my colleague AL, but he always tells me to think for myself.
@luci yeah, flow charts can be a good tool to explain complex concepts

@luci

Many things are called "artificial intelligence".

Want a good computer chess game? That's AI.

Want industrial control systems that regulate machines more efficiently than humans? That's AI.

The current wave of LLM-based generative AI makes everyone crazy for it, even those who have no idea how it works, what it's good for, and what it isn't.

It provides normative text, which can look like a solution, even when it isn't one.

@luci who drew your profile picture?

@dianaisnthere oh heck I’m busted

I’m actually looking for an artist to redo it for me for money because it’s a point of shame for me.

@luci In Soviet Russia, AI needs YOU!

@luci isn't it more like this?
Probably not, yours is simpler and thus less prone to mistakes…

#blockchain #ai #flowchart

that's not a flowchart
@michael what is it? I’ll redo my post
doesn't really matter – I'm just being pedantic for no good reason :)

in a flow-chart, the choice/question would be a diamond (this is also not really a proper flowchart; a choice should have more than one exits and the answer would be on the connectors)

@luci funny.

I had the same idea today when our boss rambled about how everyone needs to become an AI expert.

I asked an AI to adapt this chart and I think this is perfectly illustrating the state of "AI".

@lbenedix the blockchain flowchart inspired this post

@luci but do I want it?

Also no.

@luci If you couldn’t be bothered to write it, I don’t have to bother to read it.
@luci More in general, a flowchart generated by AI:
@farlukar @luci how the fuck did you see inside my brain

@luci

Exactly, AI is garbage... unless you forgot everything and then you needed to suddenly remember things, but you couldn't remember things... and you were lazy anyways, and didn't want to open "THE BOOKS"... they are literally right beside you anyways.

No! AI is bad... boooo

@luci It needs more. Like how to make the assholes stop shoving their ai BS into everything.
@luci @Tattooed_Mummy I think the only thing that would make this better would be if it was constructed using Microsoft Office’s new “vibe working” feature

@luci

I certainly need AI. What I probably don't need, is an LLM.

@luci just lie and say your current offerings are AI. Nobody will know the difference.
@luci May i forward this to my boss pls?
@linda you are free to use the flowchart as you please

@luci Straight to the point, nothing to add. Though if you'd want to add anything, it would still remain a straight line:

"But what if everyone else in the field is using AI?" - "Still no." - "But what if my customers want AI?" - "They sure as hell do not."

@luci THIS - ALL OF THIS!
@luci Same question, but if you asl AI it (answer is 5.37 now)
