Can the European mind comprehend the Buc-ee's Gas Station Bathroom Art Gallery?
Buc-ee's is a gas station franchise out of Texas, they are the size of a full grocery store, they usually have 100+ gas pumps and an enormous car wash. They make their own brisket, and have a restaurant's worth of food and snacks you can buy. They have they're own Beaver branded merchandise, a lot of it, as well as a pretty extensive gift shop. The phrase "Everything is bigger in Texas" applies here.
@RickiTarr now I want beaver nuggets dammit
@RickiTarr they built one in my city a few years back. It’s packed all the time and tourists stop at it on their way to our Bass Pro Shops. 🤷‍♂️

@RickiTarr I've described it as "A warehouse club had a baby with a gas station that was raised in a circus that was also purgatory"

But I'm an introvert and Buc-ees gives me sensory overload during a nice peaceful roadtrip.

@drsbaitso YES, it's never not insane.
@RickiTarr I was unimpressed with Buc-ee's for two reasons:

1. I've been to 80-West, "World's Largest Truck Stop" in Iowa several times. It's larger than a typical Buc-ee's, but grew organically, so it's more chaotic instead of just 100x gas pumps. Has a yoga studio, massage parlor, an entire food court in addition to sit down restaurant, even a Museum of Long Haul Trucking.

2. Buc-ee's was clearly engineered to be exciting to families with small children who don't road trip often. The other truck stop chains - Loves, Pilot, TA, etc - were built for people who live on the road. You can find stuff at those places for quick temporary repairs, degreaser soap for when you check your oil, even a shower if you've been moving so long you need a refresh.

I described it as "Buc-ee's is for dilettantes" once and was accused of gatekeeping. Meh.

1a. The food isn't great IMHO.
@aaron Yeah, the brisket is way overhyped, Wally's is way better.

@RickiTarr

They have a LOT of restrooms that have always been very clean when I've been there. No waiting in line to go.

@RickiTarr An “interstate town” near me recently declined to host s Buc-ees and I’m quite proud of them.
@RickiTarr beaver branded? In Texas? That HAS to be an innuendo...

@RickiTarr

There's one on I-25 between Cheyenne, WY and Fort Collins, CO. We had no idea what a Buc-ee's was and wow... it's truly a road-side event. I was completely shocked to realize their coffee is really good too. Them being from Texas, I really wanted to hate them, but I couldn't.

@RickiTarr A couple of weeks ago, I could have gone to a Buc-ees. Sadly, I didn't have time since I had other important things to attend to.😢
You might ask why I was at Buc-ee's, and I will now reveal something about myself that may come off a bit neurospicy. I love car washes, like really, and Buc-ee's has some of the biggest ones on the world, and you get a dollar off per gallon of gas when you buy the car wash. It's okay if you lose all respect for me.
@RickiTarr They're fun to watch. :)

Not a big fan of actually USING them. Seen too much damage and too many poor washes.

@RickiTarr my brother loves the beaver nuggets...

I stop for the clean restrooms and brisket sandwich 😀

@RickiTarr
Nah, you’re good. Automated carwashes are surreal and fun, c’mon!
@RickiTarr Okay, I don't know if this will scratch your itch or tickle a craving, but here's an audio podcast where I, as a Blind person, go to and through a carwash with a sighted Audio Describer. It certainly scratched an itch for me. https://talkdescriptiontome.buzzsprout.com/1136756/episodes/8952716-episode-62-the-car-wash-in-stereo
Episode 62 - The Car Wash in Stereo! - Talk Description to Me

Ok, this is the big one. In this action-packed episode, Christine and JJ go where no Description podcast has gone before: though a carwash! And not just any carwash -- the longest, most sophisticated, full service car wash in North America. And no...

@RickiTarr Buc-ee’s sells kombucha now.
@RickiTarr I have more respect for you now.
@RickiTarr Their cinnamon pecans are my only vice
@RickiTarr Yes but did you get the sandwich?
@Aviva_Gary I live in a land of elite bbq, so it's okay, but not the best
@RickiTarr *writes down she got the nuts instead* 👀
@Aviva_Gary Warm chips

@RickiTarr oh okay... those are good or so I hear

*snacks on fudge in the background*

@RickiTarr No. Not at all.
@Pistolenkind Like you can buy it, it's in the bathroom hall, and there wasso much more lol

@RickiTarr I would need some sensory deprivation device. Lol

(Autistic guy)

But still cool.

@RickiTarr I will respect the Buc-ee's bathroom art gallery when they install less generic tile.

@RickiTarr OMG I just watched a Phil Edwards video on Buc-ees! I had never heard of it up here in Canada.

The cult of Buc-ee's

@wandrecanada Oh great video, I literally watched it after I made this post lol, weird timing.
@wandrecanada I haven't even heard of it in Arizona. @RickiTarr
@RickiTarr this European mind wonders if the common theme is camouflage? Do I win a gift voucher?
@RickiTarr someone I met recently described himself and his wife as "so white we take road trips to Buc-ee's".
@RickiTarr can the european mind comprehend the concept of Buc-ee's itself? it's so american that it's straight up a parody of itself coming out of The Simpsons or some shit
@sterophonick It truly is, it's garish, and yet...

@RickiTarr

Buc-ees is amazing. Up here, we have 29 Pines, a hotel, restaurant, bar, truck stop, truck parking and many things you probably don't need and shouldn't buy but you do anyway.

My oldest friend is a truck driver. We meet up there, eat dinner, go to the bar, back to our rooms, eat breakfast and he's on his way again.
