people forget how much of Lord of the Rings is travel details and pony wrangling

@jsnell
I never do 🥰
@HollyGoDarkly I get why it's not in the movies but I do appreciate a book that points out you have to plan logistics and get from here to there and stop for lunch etc etc
@jsnell @HollyGoDarkly Fully 90% of my travel planning revolves around meals.
@dmoren @jsnell @HollyGoDarkly As a dad, on an in-progress family vacation, the number of times my wife or I have had to ask, “but is there a decent kids menu” has reached 100% saturation of our logistics planning.

@jsnell I started and stopped (out of boredom) Fellowship of the Ring so many times before I was able to finally push through it. The impending movies were the motivation to push through.

I found the second and third books much easier, perhaps because I was invested in the story and world by then.

@jsnell Middle Earth would have been screwed without logistics.
@jsnell The author has clearly been on more than one long hike.
