@JessTheUnstill we elected people who hold up passive aggressive little signs instead of actually doing their jobs

@Viss @JessTheUnstill Actually, the problem is that we did NOT elect a majority of Democrats.

Because… every sitting SCOTUS justice nominated by Democrats is trying to maintain our Democracy. And, none of this absolute insanity being done by the President and unchallenged by Congress… was happening when Democrats were in charge.

In fact, if people actually voted for Democrats regularly, it’s undeniable things would be much better today.

But let’s complain about the minority party instead of the people in charge??????

@mls14 @Viss @JessTheUnstill

Yeah let's complain about an opposition that can't field a candidate who can beat a convicted felon.

@Dave_Goldsmith @mls14 @Viss @JessTheUnstill the candidate was fine. The electorate was fing dumb.

@Jam123 @Dave_Goldsmith @mls14 @Viss @JessTheUnstill

The candidate can be changed; the electorate can't.

@dankmane @Jam123 @Dave_Goldsmith @Viss @JessTheUnstill So, people don’t have free will?

They could choose between a Nazi and a black woman and somehow the actions of somebody in the Democratic Party forced them to pick the Nazi?

Trump voters and non-voters need to OWN this. Because only THEY can fix it. By switching away from the GOP or showing up, respectively.

@mls14 @dankmane @Jam123 @Viss @JessTheUnstill

The Dems ran a candidate that lost to a convicted felon. I'm not placing blame, I am stating the facts.

I'd say that is an indictment of our polity and it doesn't speak well for the "loyal opposition," either, IMHO.

@Dave_Goldsmith @mls14 @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill again that falls upon the electorate Democracy only works if the voters educate themselves but we all know that most folks won't be bothered.

@Jam123 @Dave_Goldsmith @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill Yes, I think the challenge is educating people and breaking through the social media propaganda bubbles.

Short-term, we need to focus on: putting more desirable candidates on the ballot through higher primary turnout. And then swarm the general elections to get rid of as many Republicans as possible.

It will take work and time to pull this backsliding democracy back on track.

@tuban_muzuru @mls14 @Jam123 @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill

As long as the Dems are Rep-lite they can't attract the poor and working-class voters they need to blow away the Reps. Now it may be too late as Trump may just cancel elections...

@tuban_muzuru @mls14 @Jam123 @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill

Agreed. Citizen's United made this level of corruption obligatory and inevitable. Since runaway capitalism and democracy are incompatible we are probably screwed until the law changes. There is no reason to think the law will change and its not hyperbolic to wonder if we will ever have free and fair elections in the U.S. again.

@Dave_Goldsmith @tuban_muzuru @Jam123 @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill We just had a free and fair election for a member of Congress. You are giving WAY too much credit to our incompetent President. He couldn’t even send National Guard to Chicago which he promised. He failed to indict people in DC. He keeps losing in court.

This bunch of clowns will not be ending free and fair elections before 2026. The pushback has already started and this administration looks weaker every day.

@mls14 @tuban_muzuru @Jam123 @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill

You are more optimistic than I am. I hope you are right.

@Dave_Goldsmith @tuban_muzuru @Jam123 @dankmane @Viss @JessTheUnstill I really learned a lot from this interview (it’s currently the top episode “Jimmy Kimmel and the Power of Public Pressure”.

The guest explains how the current US situation compares to other backsliding democracies and authoritarian states. It is sobering, yet shows that we have plenty of reasons to be optimistic and keep fighting.
