Mew, peeps! I joined #Finch, thanks to inspiration from a lovely friend of the miaolings here on Mastodon! My birb is named Bamboo and they are still a baby. They spend their time walking long distances in the forest, which is pretty much what I wish I could do all day. We’ll see how the app works for me, but so far I have a good feeling about it.
My birb gets to carry around a little rubber ducky. I’m so happy for them!
Little Bamboo couldn’t finish all their tasks today 😭
My birb baby Bamboo doesn’t like the Very Hungry Caterpillar because they are jealous of caterpillars!
I had an upsetting phone call (aren’t they all) to make but knowing that I could mark it off on #Finch helped me get it done. 🎉
Productivity update: The #Finch micropets make cute little noises when you tap them. I have been petting someone’s baby duck micropet and I just can’t get enough of it. I wish I could see the names of other people’s micropets.
#Finch dilemma: If I sell our birdhouse door, I can afford a basket of black carrots for Bamboo to carry around. But maybe we need a door.
My birb is naked until I can decide how to dress them
Believe it or not, I am looking forward to cleaning litter boxes later today because Bamboo will get to hatch a new micropet!
Four weeks of #Finch and I can honestly say that it has had a beneficial impact on my ability to organize and follow through with tasks. It has also helped me punctuate my day with little moments of rest rather than press on with counterproductive task marathons that actually make it harder to get stuff done.
How could anyone ever afford a #Finch plushie for their birb for 15k rainbow stones?! Maybe Bamboo needs to start a savings account.
I’m trying to decide which micropet language to learn next
I’m considering adding my daily word games to my recurring #Finch goals so I don’t forget. The only one I never skip (or haven’t for hundreds of days) is Wordle. Even my favorite game Waffle gets forgotten now and then!
Yesterday I walked home carrying a giant maple leaf, and it occurred to me that my birb has a Dino leaf to snack on on their adventures. I did not nibble on my leaf, though I was tempted.
My #Finch birb Bamboo now has a blue mousie toy just like ChunChun’s favorite!

I’ve been on #Finch for 50 plus days now and it has been transformative. After a long day of tasks, I’m not at the point of meltdown. I prioritize things better and I don’t feel guilty about taking breaks. I feel better about what I get done and it costs less mental effort to do things.

I’m not like a new person or anything, but I so wish I had something like this years ago.

I find it highly significant that my birb Bamboo, a finch, is visiting the Galápagos Islands.
#Finch confession: sometimes I avoid checking off tasks until Bamboo is back from their adventure so I can see them walking along so happily. Completing tasks shortens their adventure time!
My birb Bamboo doesn’t like bagels
That moment when you realize your #Finch birb has a better wardrobe than you do
As my #Finch birb evolved to adulthood today, I am confronted with the philosophical conundrum: What is the point of a tummy patch if your birb is always dressed?
#Finch update: My birb Bamboo is traveling to Reykjavík in pajamas, a sensible and stylish choice
@littlemiao Save travels Bamboo! Stay warm, I hear Iceland can be a little on the cold side.
@lappenjammer Not as cold as Wisconsin 😹
@littlemiao Sometimes my birb's tummy patch peeks out between their shirt and pants!

@djtoebeans @littlemiao

They grow up? So quickly too? And please tell me: what is a tummy patch?

@lappenjammer @littlemiao Yes, they grow up as you hit certain milestones and then you get to select a color for different body parts: cheeks, beak, tummy, etc.
@djtoebeans @lappenjammer I have learned so much about birb anatomy from #Finch! 😹
@djtoebeans I’ll have to pay more attention!
@littlemiao Because you are so good at doing your tasks ☝️
@littlemiao I know this is a harsh question but how have you failed in his upbringing?
@lappenjammer It is a shock indeed. I set a good example and buy them everything a little birb could want, even a dinosaur egg incubator, and yet here we are!
@littlemiao Ooooh! How exciting!
@lappenjammer Maybe Bamboo can meet some of Darwin’s finches! 💗
@littlemiao Also you have a birb with his own micro pet.
@lappenjammer And a fine little wardrobe that includes an elephant costume and cozy slippers. 🥺

@littlemiao A birb in an elephant costume 🥺? How cute!!

Can you actually post screenshots of Bamboo or doesn't the app allow it?

@lappenjammer Since you asked, here’s Bamboo in their green elephant costume with a Thai parasol, and micropet Pinecone
@littlemiao Oh this is impossibly cute 🥰 Thanks for sharing.
I can understand how caring for Bamboo's garments and accessories is important.

@lappenjammer It’s so silly but I love it!

All the chores and tasks I do now serve the higher purpose of enabling Bamboo to live in style

@littlemiao It's fun! Nothing silly about that :)

@littlemiao Happy little Bamboo 🤩

Do birbs play with mousies?

@lappenjammer I think they must. ChunChun loves to carry it around, proclaiming his victory, and then give it to us. He is such a noble and benevolent Lord Mayor 💙
@littlemiao He is. We all adore him.
@littlemiao That is all fair and good, but is little birby still naked 🥺?
@lappenjammer I’m pleased to say that Bamboo has as a lovely little collection of cute Finch couture. I wish I could dress to match!
@littlemiao Sweet little bamboo is lucky to have you.

@littlemiao

Let's just hope that it won't quit and remains legit.

@serge My poor birb 😹
@littlemiao @serge I am too scared to use Finch cos I know I’ll eventually stop logging it and then I’ll feel guilty.
@hauntedhideaway @serge I totally get that. But for whatever reason if something has a streak and an interface i like, I get obsessed, maybe too much so!
@littlemiao Apart from being cute, does the app really work for you in terms of "self care"? I could totally see how I could be hooked by the gamification aspect but not how it would help me to achieve the simplest goals.

@lappenjammer Well, it works for me more in terms of productivity but the self care reminders and tasks are useful too and maybe they will pay off over time.

It is weird, but it makes it easier for me to start certain tasks. For example, I am going to wash dishes or take a shower regardless, but knowing I can earn rainbow stones for Bamboo gives me extra motivation when I am super tired. And for unpleasant tasks I am avoiding, adding it to the app has increased the chances of me actually doing it.

It also works better as a to do list than my pitiful paper version or no list at all.

@lappenjammer Also, I’ve always been motivated by progress bars, streaks, and virtual confetti. I don’t know why!
@littlemiao Hooray for that 🎉🎉🎉
@lappenjammer Yay confetti! So far my biggest complaint is that there is no indication that I can purchase eyestalks for my birb.
@littlemiao What??? That is serious neglect.
@littlemiao Sometimes having the phone function on my phone disappoint me.
